Thursday, October 31

7:00 pm South Florida at Houston (-17 1/2, 56 1/2) - Unbeknownst to many, the houston Cougars are a quality team, their only loss coming two weeks ago, a 47-46 loss to BYU. Wins over Temple (22-13) and Rutgers (49-14, last week) show that the Cougars are more than your run-of-the-mill American Athletic Conference team.

The Cougars have outscored opponents by an average of 19.7 ppg and are 7-0 ATS and 4-0 ATS at home. 2-5 South Florida stands little chance here, their only hope that the Cougars are looking forward to their next two opponents, UCF and Louisville.

Prediction: Cougars 52 Bulls 10

10:30 pm Arizona State (-12, 71 1/2) at Washington State - Favored Arizona State has a checkered, 5-2, record thus far, with losses at Stanford (42-28) and to Notre Dame (37-34), a game that was played at Jerry Jones' Cowboys Stadium back on October 5.

The Sun Devils have a highly proficient offense, averaging 45.4 points per game, sixth in the nation. Defense isn't their forte, though they are better at it than their opponent, Washington State, the Cougars allowing 29.9 ppg to the Sun Devils' 26.7.

These two meet every year, the Sun Devils winners in eight of the last ten. The only times the Cougars have won have been on their home turf, as this game is, and those games have been considerably closer than those at Sun Devil Stadium. with that in mind, look for the Cougars to match up offensively and keep this one under the line in a high-scoring contest.

Prediction: Sun Devils 42 Cougars 37

Friday, November 1

9:00 pm USC at Oregon State (-5, 52 1/2) - The 5-3 Trojans have had their share of ups-and-downs this season and are not one of the better teams in the PAC-12, while Oregon State is, having suffered only their second loss of the season - and first in conference - last week to Stanford, a 20-12 defeat, in which the Beavers showed a lot more defensive resolve than expected.

Stanford was able to slow the Beavers offensively, holding them to their lowest point total of the season, something USC can take heart in, as their defense is very good, though the offense leaves much to be desired, scoring only 24.6 ppg.

The Beavers and Trojans meet on an irregular basis, due to being in difference divisions of the PAC-12, but the beavers have prevailed in seven of the last ten meetings, including a 36-7 romp in their last match-up, in 2010.

Oregon State should get back on track here, at home, against a punchless Trojan squad.

Prediction: Beavers 34 Trojans 20

Saturday, November 2

12:00 pm Wisconsin (-9 1/2, 50) at Iowa - Winning on the road is a tough task in any conference, the Big Ten included, and the 5-3 Hawkeyes pose a particular threat with a solid defense and capable offense, shown after topping Northwestern, 17-10, in OT, last week at home.

5-2 Wisconsin is coming off a bye week, last seen at Illinois, taking the Fighting Illini down by a 56-32 score. wisconsin's two losses this season have both come away from home, 32-30 at Arizona State, and 31-24 at Ohio State, so there's reason for worry in the Badger camp.

If history is any guide, this one will be a close call. Iowa's defense is playing well, and they've won 3 of the last five at home against the Badgers, the only losses, 24-21 in 2006 and 31-30 in 2010, the last time these two met. An upset looks to be in the making here.

Prediction: Hawkeyes 27 Badgers 24

12:21 pm Mississippi State at South Carolina (-13, 51) - The Gamecocks stunned Missouri last week on the road, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter to sent the game into overtime and winning when Mizzou failed to convert on a potentially-tying field goal in the second overtime for a wild, 27-24, South Carolina win.

That was Carolina's third straight road game, and speaks to the overall depth and quality of the Gamecocks who are still very much alive in the SEC East, since Missouri still has Tennessee, Kentucky and Ole Miss on their conference schedule.

4-3 Mississippi State is only 1-2 in SEC play and doesn't appear much of a threat to South Carolina here, especially if Connor Shaw gets the start at QB.

Prediction: Gamecocks 38 Bulldogs 10
