Thursday, October 10

7:30 pm Rutgers at Louisville (-18, 54) - Despite Rutgers being one of the best teams the Cardinals will play from here on out, they're still overmatched n Louisville's home turf as they march to an undefeated record.

The Scarlet Knights are one point - in an opening weekend 52-51 OT loss at Fresno State - from a perfect record, but are still 4-1, after outlasting SMU last week, in overtime, 55-52, on the road.

While Rutgers may be a little road weary, they've played good teams and mostly beaten them. Louisville will probably be 6-0 when this one ends, but it will be closer than they'd like.

Prediction: Cardinals 36 Scarlet Knights 31

10:30 pm Arizona at USC (-6, 48 1/2) - The Trojans are favored only because of their defense, but it's a very good one, and the offense may begin to show some muscle at this point of the season.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they showed their true colors in their last game, a 31-13 loss at Washington. The Trojans got hammered, 62-41, but have had a week off to recover from that road debacle.

The Trojans will have their way at home, and the line is much too short.

Prediction: Trojans 42 Wildcats 21

Friday, October 11

8:30 pm Temple at Cincinnati (-20 1/2, 51 1/2) - This is simply a horribel game between two teams which may not be bowl eligible whan all is said and done, but somebody has to win. Temple has many faults, including an 0-5 record and a 30-7 loss to Louisville last week, but giving them almost three TDs - by a team that lost, 26-20, last week to lowly South Florida - is really stretching the bounds of imagination.

The Bearcats have the makings of a pretty good football team, but so do the Owls, and this is a chance for them to prove it, or at least lose another close game.

Prediction: Owls 27 Bearcats 24

Saturday, October 12

12:00 pm Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech (-9, 43) - Since losing to Florida State, 41-13, in week one, the Pittsburgh Panthers have reeled off three straight wins, two of them against ACC squads - Duke, 58-55, and Virginia, 14-3.

The Panthers are 3-1 s they head into enemy territory and have had a week off since their home win over Virginia, but that isn't likely to give them relief, because the Holies are revitalized at 5-1, and have just one loss - also on opening weekend - to Alabama, 35-10.

Virginia Tech will roll, forcing turnovers and holding onto the ball for long periods while the Pittsburgh offense sits and watches.

Prediction: Hokies 28 Panthers 13

12:00 pm Missouri at Georgia (-8, 63) - Missouri has played well, running up a 5-0 mark, though the wins have come against sub-par opposition, though wins at Indiana and Vanderbilt (last week, 51-28) are somewhat impressive.

Georgia survived a true scare at Tennessee last week, finally carving out a 31-28 overtime win as their starting offensive lineup was decimated by injuries throughout the game.

It would be nice for the Bulldogs to get a week off to get healthy, but as long as Aaron Murray is behind center, they will be OK. This is a huge contest for both teams, but in the end, the Georgia defense must step up.

Prediction: Bulldogs 38 Tigers 24

12:00 pm Oklahoma (-14 1/2, 57) vs. Texas - The Longhorns have hit the skids, at 3-2, when they could easily be 2-3, after just squeaking by Iowa State, 31-30, last Thursday. They've had extra time to get ready for the Red River Shootout, but the Sooners are 5-0 and looking pretty darn awesome on both sides of the ball.

In the past two weeks, Oklahoma dusted Notre Dame, 35-21 and TCU, 20-17. In the latter game, they held the Horned Frogs without a first down in the first half, and though TCU rallied to make it close, the Sooners had the will to win.

This game will be at Jerry Jones' megadome in Arlington, and the big crowd might scare some of the Texas players, but will be a boon to the Sooners. Texas will be totally out of their element against the powerhouse Oklahoma squad.

Prediction: Sooners 44 Longhorns 17

12:21 pm: South Carolina (-6, 51) at Arkansas - Something's got to give in this match-up, as the 3-3 Razorbacks are 1-4 ATS their last five games as are the 4-1 Gamecocks. South Carolina has shown a consistent propensity to give away large chunks of leads late in games, while the Razorbacks have simply been outscored or the line too large for them to cover.

After their 45-33 loss to Texas A&M, it was thought that Arkansas could be a team on the rise, but against Florida's tight defense, they were very limited in a 30-10 loss and South Carolina may put the clamps down early and keep the pressure on, for a change.

Though Arkansas is 6-1 ATS the last seven times they've played the Gamecocks at home, they were heavy underdogs in most of those games.

Prediction: Gamecocks 37 Razorbacks 20
