Friday, September 11

8:00 pm Miami (-17 1/2, 55) at Florida Atlantic - The Hurricanes are heavy favorites after blowing out Bethune-Cookman, 45-0, last week, but the Owls of Florida Atlantic took their season opener at UCF, 15-14, and look to make it two in a row, and, this is their opening home game.

A little tough to think that the Owls could stay in the game long against the Hurricanes, but the first half should be a lively affair and the score close, but Miami will come around in the second half and probably blow this one wide open.

Prediction: Hurricanes 41 Owls 13

9:00 pm Utah State at Utah (-13 1/2, 44) - After a 10-4 season in 2014, the Aggies of Utah State began their 2015 campaign with a ho-hum, 12-9 victory over creampuff, Southern Utah.

The Utes, however, got their season off to a rip-roaring start with a win over Michigan (24-17) and get home field again.

These two instate rivals didn't meet last year but the Utes have the makings of a real presence in the PAC-12, so another win to get to 2-0 appears in the cards.

Prediction: Utes 28 Aggies 10

11:30 am South Florida at Florida State (-27 1/2, 53) - Things may be on the upswing for South Florida after a 4-8 season in 2014, but facing the post-Winston Seminoles on the road does not bode well. The Bulls wallopped Florida A&M last week, 51-3, but, Florida State also smashed up Texas State, 59-16.

One would think the Seminoles are over-favored and one would deb right. They'll win, but only by three touchdowns.

Prediction: Seminoles 45 Bulls 24

12:00 pm Oregon State at Michigan (-15 1/2, 48) - OK, either Oregon State is really bad (they were 5-7 last season) or Michigan's loss to Utah last week was an abberation, judging by the point spread.

The Beavers opened their season with a nice, 26-7, win over Weber State, so they're going in the right direction.

Michigan 0-2? Maybe. Leave it to Beavers.

Prediction: Beavers 27 Michigan 24

3:30 pm Notre Dame (-12 1/2, 47 1/2) at Virginia - Sorry Cavaliers fans, but after being hammered by UCLA last week, inviting the Fighting Irish in after they demolished and demoralized the Texas Longhorns is not such a smart scheduling maneuver.

This should be over by the end of the third quarter.

Prediction: Fighting Irish 42 Cavaliers 16

4:45 pm Iowa (-3 1/2, 52) at Iowa State - The Hawkeyes opened their season with a 31-14 win over Illinois State, while the Cyclones knocked off Northern Iowa, 31-7, so both teams appear ready to rumble.

Last season, Iowa State took the road win, 20-17, but the Hawkeyes will even up that score with a defensive win.

Prediction: Hawkeyes 24 Cyclones 13

6:00 pm Oklahoma (-1, 61 1/2) at Tennessee - It's been a long time since the Vols have been mentioned as a part of the Top 25, and a win here would go a long ways towards cementing their place as one of the better teams in not just the SEC, but the entire country.

The Sooners got off to their usual good start with a routine, 41-3, win over Akron, but are they ready for a road environment as challenging as the Volunteers offer? Probably not.

Tennessee's defense should be tighter after a 59-30 win over Bowling Green last week and may walk this one home.

Prediction: Volunteers 30 Sooners 24
