Thursday, September 10

Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots (-7, 52) 8:30 pm - Well, the courts sided with Tom Brady after all and he will start against the Steelers, but questions will dog both of these perennial post-season participants, like where is the New England defense and really, how good is Pittsburgh's offense.

The Pats aren't likely to disappoint on opening night of the NFL season, but they aren't going to win by much.

Prediction: Patriots 28 Steelers 24

Sunday, September 13

Indianapolis Colts (-2 1/2, 46) at Buffalo Bills 1:00 pm - Unless anybody wasn't paying attention, the Bills happen to be this season's designer pick to click and make it to the playoffs. Rex Ryan's choice of Tyrod Taylor as the starting QB for the Bills was likely the right one, and he should slice through Indy's porous defense.

Andrew Luck will get the Colts' offense into gear (they scored just 51 preseason points), but the defense doesn't appear to be ready for this.

Prediction: Bills 31 Colts 21

Green Bay Packers (-7, 50) at Chicago Bears 1:00 pm - No Jordy Nelson? No problem, since the Packers still have Aaron Rodgers, probably the best QB in the business, behind center, and he'll find ways to get the ball into the end zone.

Chicago's defense is not what it was a few years ago and last season, the Packers shredded it, 38-17, in Chi-town and 55-14 at Lambeau.

Prediction: Packers 31 Bears 17

Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans (even, 40 1/2) 1:00 pm - Not looking all that shabby in the preseason, the Texans may be able to prevail against KC with home field advantage.

This could be one of the more entertaining games of the entire weekend, decided possibly by a game ending field goal.

Prediction: Texans 23 Chiefs 20

Carolina Panthers (-3, 41) at Jacksonville Jaguars 1:00 pm - Jacksonville will be better than they were last season, when they finished 3-13, but not good enough to defeat the Panthers, who went to the playoffs from the NFC South.

This will only be fun for a little while, unless, of course, one enjoys seeing a team totally smothered by an oppressive defense.

Prediction: Panthers 28 Jaguars 9

Cleveland Browns at New York Jets (-3, 40) 1:00 pm - While the Browns may have been dismissed by many as a team without much of a chance in the AFC North, that perception may not be valid, though this game won't really provide much in the way of real analysis.

The Browns should dominate, if only because the Jets are as bad as people think they are. New York football might be suffering a blackout or black eyes for most of the season.

Prediction: Browns 23 Jets 10

--- Story continues below ---

Seattle Seahawks (-4 1/2, 41) at St. Louis Rams 1:00 pm - Pundits predict the Seahawks to once again rule the roost in the NFC West, but does anyone recall the score of the first meeting between these two in 2014, also at St. Louis.

Surprise, surprise, the Rams won, 28-26. This is, after all, a divisional rivalry, which many times goes the way of the home teams. Rams getting points is a plus.

Prediction: Seahawks 17 Rams 14

Miami Dolphins (-4, 43) at Washington Redskins 1:00 pm - Seriously? Miami was 1-3 in the preseason, while the Redskins went 3-1.

This is a game just made to dispute those who believe the preseason is a worthless endeavor. Or not.

Prediction: Redskins 20 Dolphins 17
