Thursday, November 19

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-2 1/2, 43) 8:25 pm - While there's not much going on for either of these teams this season, this game may serve as a window into the future.

The Titans have rookie Marcus Mariota at quarterback; the Jaguars start second-year Blake Bortles. Both players were highly decorated in college, Mariota, in fact, a Heisman Trophy winner.

If anything, this should be a fun game to watch, but give the edge to the Jaguars. With another win, they'll exceed their total Ws from 2014.

Prediction: Jaguars 31 Titans 27

Sunday, November 22

Indianapolis Colts at Atlanta Falcons (-7, 47 1/2) 1:00 pm - A real break for the Falcons comes in the knowledge that their defense will not have to face the likes of one Andrew Luck. The Indy QB is out, replaced by journeyman, Matt Hasselbeck, who is a capable guy.

On the Atlanta side of the ball is another Matt, Ryan, to be exact, who's having a fair season, helping the Falcons to #6 in scoring (25.4 ppg.).

The Colts are a different team without Luck, and, their defense is not very good. Look for the Falcons to build a big lead and coast to another win.

Prediction: Falcons 27 Colts 7

St. Louis Rams at Baltimore Ravens (-1, 41 1/2) 1:00 pm - Why are the Ravens still considered to be a good team. In case anyone hasn't noticed, they are 2-7 and just lost last week to Jacksonville, allowing the Jaguars to equal their win total (3) from last season.

This game can be broken down in all kinds of ways, but, the Rams are 4-5, still in the hunt for a playoff spot and have incentive to win. Sure, they're only 1-3 on the road, but, hey, the Ravens are 1-3 at HOME!

Prediction: Rams 23 Ravens 17

Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers (-8 1/2, 45) 1:00 pm - The Panthers and Patriots are the only undefeated teams in the league, and one would think that this game might be a walk-over for 9-0 Carolina.

However, after the game Kirk Cousins had against New Orleans last week, one has to assume he's comfortable in his starting role, at long last, and should put forward a decent effort in this road test. The Redskins have a good shot at winning the AFC East - possibly with a .500 record - so this is an important contest for them.

Carolina is very, very good, and should win this home game, but the margin may be a slim one.

Prediction: Panthers 24 Redskins 20

Denver Broncos at Chicago Bears (even, 43) 1:00 pm - My, how quickly things change. Last week the Bears were seven-point road underdogs to the Rams and the Broncos were seven-point favorites at home over the Chiefs.

Well, since the Bears mercilessly pounded the Rams, 37-13, and the Cheifs took out Denver, 29-13, everything looks different. Chicago is, all of a sudden, 4-5, with playoff hopes blooming, while the Broncos have collapsed, losing two straight after a 7-0 start. Brock Oswieler will replace Payton Manning at QB for Denver; Jay Cutler remains healthy and productive for the Bears.

Osweiler is a 6'8" monster with good skills, though he's largely untested at this level. He's going to get a windy welcome in his first NFL start.

Prediction: Bears 24 Broncos 13

Oakland Raiders at Detroit Lions (even, 48) 1:00 pm - Seriously, the Lions' win over the Packers was a complete fluke. Green Bay is playing about as well as most 2-7 or 3-6 teams. They've shut down at mid-season. Detroit, on the other hand, is, actually, a 2-7 team. They're not good.

Oakland has hit some speed bumps the past two weeks, losing to the Steelers and Vikings, both looking very much like playoff teams, so, there's really nothing not to like about Oakland, except maybe their defense, which allows 26.8 points per game.

However, the Lions give up 29 ppg. on average and they don't have Derek Carr or Amari Cooper.

Prediction: Raiders 30 Lions 22

New York Jets (-3, 40 1/2) at Houston Texans 1:00 pm - Houston confirmed that T.J. Yates will be the QB this Sunday, while the Jets said their QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a starter, despite a sore thumb.

Houston is coming off a huge 10-6 win at Cincinnati, sending the Bengals to their first loss of the season. The Jets have had since last Thursday to ponder their loss to the Bills and should be well-rested.

Both teams are in the playoff hunt, the Jets at 5-4, while Houston is 4-5, but a win could put him in sole possession of first place in the AFC South, pending howIndy does against the Falcons (also at 1:00 pm). Don't underestimate the importance of this game. Houston has a winner in Yates, though he's still regarded as an afterthought. Not many points to be scored here, as both defenses are rock solid and playing against questionable offenses, but Houston has an edge overall in a tight game scenario.

Prediction: Texans 16 Jets 13

Dallas Cowboys at Miami Dolphins (even, 47 1/2) 1:00 pm - Well, the Cowboys are now 0-7 without Tony Romo, but the star QB returns from injury this week.

Though call here, as the Cowboys are desperate for a win, while the Dolphins fooled everyone by topping the Eagles last week, 20-19. Romo may have a bit of rust on him, and the Cowboy offense may to be very crisp, but the defense is one of the better ones in the league, even though the numbers say differently.

The Cowboys should rise to the occasion, though it's unlikely to be very pretty.

Prediction: Cowboys 20 Dolphins 16

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Philadelphia Eagles (-5 1/2, 45 1/23) 1:00 pm - Considering that the Eagles lost to Miami last week and the Buccaneers prevailed over the Cowboys, it would appear that the situation in Philadelphia is dire and the fate of coach Kelly is under review.

Tampa can only improve, whereas the Eagles have much to prove.

Take the points and run.

Prediction: Buccaneers 21 Eagles 17
