Free Picks for Week of 9/12 - 9/16 - Home Teams in BOLD CAPS College Pick of the week: Michigan -3 NOTRE DAME - The Irish, despite being 2-0, have yet to score an offensive touchdown, blowing out Maryland, 22-0 in their opener, on five field goals and a punt return. Last week, the Irish managed 3 defensive TDs, two on fumble recoveries and one on an interception. Michigan has trouble with their kicking game, missing five of six, but still are 2-0, as the lone made kick was at the buzzer to beat Washington in their opener. Last week, the Wolverines mauled Western Michigan, 35-12, as expected, with a balanced attack. Michigan had 220 yards rushing and 226 passing. QB John Navarre threw for 4 TDs. The Michigan defense will dominate this game. Nobody can run on these guys and the Irish certainly can't pass the football, so unless the luck of the Irish turns up again, with the defense forcing turnovers and scoring, the Wolverines will rout them. The ineptitude of the Irish on offense will make for a long day for their defense, and any defense will tire when on the field most of the day. MICHIGAN IS A BEST BET! Pro Picks: NY JETS -1 New England - I suppose people will begin to give the Patriots credit for being a very good football team when they are 10-2 and about to clinch a playoff spot. After hammering the Steelers (why were THEY the favorites in New England's home opener?), and watching the Jets stumble badly against the Bills, this could turn ugly by halftime. The Jets' defense has some very large holes and their offense was totally ineffective against a decent-but-not-great Bills' D. The Patriots look polished and in sync, while the Jets have a long way to go to prove they can make the playoffs again. NEW ENGLAND IS A BEST BET! SAN DIEGO -13 Houston - The Chargers are for real, with a balanced attack and Drew Brees at the helm. Their defense is also world class and will shut down the Texans completely, blanketing receivers after stuffing the run early. While the Texans won last week, they only had 13 first downs and five of those were by penalty. Besides, Dallas is one butt-ugly football team. Quincy Carter will probably lead the league in taking sacks and interceptions - if he lasts through week 5. The Texans may not score in this contest, so under (34) is also a distinct possibility. CHARGERS PUT A BOLT INTO TEXAS - THREE STARS! MINNESOTA -5 Buffalo - I don't think the Vikes should be a five point favorite over anybody, though the Bills seem like a potential victim. The Vikings really don't have a running game or a defense. Plus, they blow leads. Bills should keep this close and possibly win it. UPSET SPECIAL! - DEFINITELY BET THIS GAME OVER 47! For all the best picks, choose a plan below! Home teams in BOLD CAPS College Football, Saturday, August 31: MICHIGAN -6 Washington - Take your pick here, but definitely take the points. The Wolverines lost a heartbreaker last season in Washington against the Huskies and one would figure it is payback time in the Big House. Problem is that Michigan probably will have trouble to generate enough offense to keep the Huskies at bay all day. This is the weekend's top play. Last team with the ball will porbably win the game. BEST BET. College Football, Saturday, August 31: GEORGIA - 8 Clemson - The Bulldogs have their eyes set on the SEC Championship, but they have plenty of competition. Clemson, however is not one of the teams providing such competition and in fact, they play in the ACC, but they will offer an exciting offense. Overall, Georgia has the home field edge and a better defense. Take the Bulldogs in a marginal pick.
College Football, Sunday, September 1: VIRGINIA TECH -7 Louisiana St. - The Hokies having lightning in a bottle in running backs Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones and an opportuistic defense. They may have the best rushing attack in the nation, and should handle LSU at Blacksburg. LSU has to find a way to win without QB Rohan Davey and receiver Josh Reed, both gone to the NFL. The Tigers still have a good defense, but the offense looks overmatched here. Huge game for both teams but V-Tech should win and cover the spread on turnovers and defense. 3 STAR PICK |
