Steinbrenner purchased the Yankees in 1973 and won 11 World Series with them, the first two being in 1977 and 1978, with the firey Billy Martin and slugger Reggie Jackson.
The Yankees later became dominant again in the 1990s as Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivra became the catalysts for multiple championships.
