Fearless Rick's Football Picks - Preseason Week 3 early games
All times Eastern
Thursday, August 25
Atlanta vs. Miami (-3, 43 1/2) at Orlando, Fla., 8:00 pm - Having been blasted by the Cowboys last week, 41-14, the Dolphins will be under pressure to perform. On track for a return to the playoffs this season, the Falcons should get solid performances from their starter and subs, the latter helping to pull out this one late.
Coin Flip: Miami
Prediction: Falcons 24 Dolphins 22
Coin Flip: Seattle
Prediction: Seahawks 32 Cowboys 16
New England at Carolina (-3 1/2, 45) 7:30 pm - A quality match-up for Friday night could be a potential Super Bowl pairing. Tough to like New England in enemy territory with nothing on the line. Coach Belichick may opt to shuffle players in and out and evaluate rather than focus on winning.
Coin Flip: New England
Prediction: Panthers 27 Patriots 20
Coin Flip: Buffalo
Prediction: Bills 34 Redskins 10
Coin Flip: New Orleans
Prediction: Steelers 30 Saints 14
Coin Flip: Tampa Bay
Prediction: Buccaneers 23 Browns 9
Coin Flip: San Francisco
Prediction: Packers 45 49ers 20
Last season, Cal went 5-0, before finishing 8-5, with a win in the Armed Forces Bowl over Air Force, which gives this team plenty of upside. The Rainbow Warriors, started out 2-1, but then lost nine straight games, ending the season with one more win (28-26 over UL Monroe) in their season finale.
Basically, this should be a no-brainer, as Cal will be competitive in the PAC-12, while Hawaii... well, some of their players would rather be surfing.
Coin Flip: University of California
Prediction: Golden Bears 54 Rainbow Warriors 17

WEEK 3 NFL Preseason
Dallas at Seattle (-5 1/2, 44 1/2), 10:00 pm - Grudge match? With the principals well-represented by both teams, there's a natural bias for the Seahawks, having been dominant the past few years. Dallas has been dull the past four seasons and there's little reason to believe they'll be anything more than marginal again this season.
Friday, August 26
Buffalo at Washington (-2 1/2, 43 1/2) 7:30 pm - Buffalo may be ready for a return to the playoffs this season, having not done so for 16 straight seasons. They have more than adequate talent at almost every position, and their defense may prove to be one of the league's best. Washington is not likely to score very often, which should lead to plenty of opportunities for the Bills.
Pittsburgh at New Orleans (-2, 45) 8:00 pm - The Saints have not resolved their defensive ineptitude and are 0-2 in preseason. Pittsburgh has not exactly knocked anybody's socks off either, also 0-2after having been shut out by the Eagles last week, 17-0. The Saints defense should be just what the Steelers need and a full half or more from Ben Roethlisberger might have some influence on this game.
Cleveland at Tampa Bay (-3 1/2, 42), 8:00 pm - Talk about a stinker! At least it will be really hot on Florida's West coast, as will be the Bucs. Tampa should be in a comfort zone, having traveled only to Jacksonville last week and returned victorious.
Green Bay at San Francisco (-1, 46 1/2), 10:00 pm - This surely should be over by halftime. There's a huge differential between these two teams. The Packers are looking forward to playing football in January. 49ers will be playing something in January, likely golf or Pokemon Go.
BONUS COLLEGE PICK: Hawaii vs. Cal (-19 1/2, 64), 10:00 pm at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, NSW - Like it or not, this game counts as college football snuck in an early game from Down Under.
