Thursday, August 16
7:30 pm Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots (-2 1/2, 40 1/2) - Return of last season's Super Bowl contestants could turn into a grudge match. In that case, the Eagles have physical and psychological advantages.
Philly was pounded by the Steelers last week, 31-14, while the Patriots came from behind in a 26-17 win over the Redskins. Regular starters will see action and the Pats are not likely to lose at home.
Coin Flip: Philadelphia
PREDICTION: Patriots 30 Eagles 20
Coin Flip: New York Jets
PREDICTION: Jets 23 Redskins 13
Coin Flip: Green Bay
PREDICTION: Packers 31 Steelers 21
7:00 pm Kansas City Chiefs at Atlanta Falcons (-2 1/2, 38) - After being shut out by the Jets last week, 17-0, the Falcons will be happy to see Matt Ryan on the field, and maybe Julio Jones.
The Chiefs weren't exactly on their best game in last week's 17-10 defeat by the Texans. They need to find a new QB and that may prove a problem not for just this game, but for most of the season. Four KC quarterbacks combined for 221 yards on 26-for-42 passing. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for any of them.
Coin Flip: Kansas City
PREDICTION: Falcons 24 Chiefs 13
New York was able to hold the Browns to 50 yards on 33 carries, but gave up 322 yards and three TD passes through the air. The Lions should be able to exploit a suspect secondary and rack up a win.
Coin Flip: Detroit
PREDICTION: Lions 34 Giants 17
Miami held its own in a 26-24 loss at home to the Buccaneers, bu the Panters are a different animal and the Dolphins may find themselves up a creek against Cam Newton and company as they sort out the QB position.
Coin Flip: Dolphins
PREDICTION: Panthers 24 Dolphins 19
The Browns are certain to improve over last season's 0-16 start and home field is not going to hurt their chances here. When was the last time the Browns were 3 1/2 point favorites?
Coin Flip: Cleveland
PREDICTION: Browns 31 Bills 24
The Saints were not impressive, despite winning, 24-20, at Jacksonville, overcoming a 20-10 deficit with two fourth quarter TDs. Both teams look a little shaky and this game may be a close call.
Coin Flip: New Orleans
PREDICTION: Saints 26 Cardinals 24

Week 2 late Games
7:00 pm NY Jets at Washington Redskins (-2, 37) - The Jets have three legitimated quarterbacks in Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater, and Josh McCown, but the real story is how the defense blanked Atlanta in last week's 17-0 win. The Redskins collapsed in the second half, losing to the Patriots, 26-17. If the Jets continue to improve, this one looks like a no brainer.
7:00 pm Pittsburgh Steelers at Green Bay Packers (-3, 37 1/2) - Green Bay racked up 356 passing yards against Tennessee last week, romping to a 31-17 win. The Steelers ripped the Eagles 31-14, so both teams have good momentum heading into week two. Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers should start and play at least three series, so expect the score to run up rather quickly.
Friday, August 17
7:00 pm NY Giants at Detroit Lions (-3, 37) - The Lions looked sluggish in last week's 16-10 loss at Oakland, but the Giants suffered the ultimate insult, losing to the Browns, 20-10.
7:30 pm Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers (-3, 37 1/2) - Carolina scored 21 second half points to overwhelm Buffalo, 28-23, on the road last week and looked fresh on both sides of the ball.
7:30 pm Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns (-3 1/2, 38) - Buffalo will get a quick look at their starting quarterback from last season, Tyrod Taylor, but they'll more than likely get a steady dose of rookie Baker Mayfield, who threw for 212 yards and two TDs last week against the Giants.
8:00 pm Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints (-3 1/2, 41) - Arizona didn't move the ball well against the Chargers in last week's 24-17 win, but San Diego coughed up the ball four times. The Cardinals only had 56 yards rushing and 118 passing, which is unlikely to get it done in New Orleans.
