NCAA College Football Week 6 Picks - Late Games
NCAA Week 6 Late Games
All times Eastern
3:30 pm Air Force (-3, 45) at Navy - The Middies are 2-1 and coming off a loss at Memphis, 35-23. They have plenty on offense and the defense is improving.
3-1 Air Force shows a 30-19 loss at Boise State two weeks ago, but the Falcons responded with a 41-24 soaring win over San Jose State. The teams meet annually, the home team winning in each of the last six contests. That trend should continue.
Coin Flip: Navy
Prediction: Midshipmen 31 Falcons 21
The Tar Heels blazed to a 2-0 start with wins over South Carolina and Miami, but have dropped three straight, the most recent a 21-20 loss to #1 Clemson. North Carolina needs to shut down the Yellow Jacket offense and show their class. If the Tar Heels play their game, they should win big, though that's not a given with this up-and-down squad. Tread lightly with these Tar Heels.
Coin Flip: Georgia Tech
Prediction: Tar Heels 34 Yellow Jackets 12
Since a 45-21 win over FAU in week one, Ohio State has given up just 22 points in four games while scoring 217. Michigan State, though they are 4-1, hasn't beaten any teams of note. Their one loss was to Arizona State, in a 10-7 snore-fest.
Given the Spartans inability to score with any regularity, Ohio State could have another field day.
Coin Flip: Michigan State
Prediction: Buckeyes 42 Spartans 13
Tulsa has wins over San Jose State and Wyoming, but losses to Michigan State and Oklahoma State were each by double digit margins. SMU has scored more than 40 points in each of their last four games and Tulsa doesn't seem to possess enough defensive strength to stop them.
Coin Flip: SMU
Prediction: Mustangs 48 Golden Hurricane 17
Is it too early to give up on the Bears? Probably not, though the Ducks have a true knockout defense. After a 27-21 loss to Auburn in their opener, the Ducks have allowed a total of 15 points over three games. That's impressive, but the teams were Nevada, Montana, and Stanford, not exactly offensive juggernauts. Cal should have a real shot, even though they're on the road.
Coin Flip: California
Prediction: Ducks 27 Golden Bears 24
The Blue Devils are 3-1, their only loss to Alabama, 42-3, opening weekend. Their three wins were over nothing teams, so, it's arguable that Pitt has played a tougher schedule. While they're home after two road games, Duke isn't going to run up the score on Pitt. This has the makings of a close, defensive game throughout.
Coin Flip: Duke
Prediction: Panthers 24 Blue Devils 22

Week 6 Early Games
3:30 pm North Carolina (-10, 48 1/2) at Georgia Tech - Tech's triple option offense has generated just 54 points in four games, losing three of them. The offense was shut out last week at Temple in a 24-2 defeat.
7:30 pm #25 Michigan State at #4 Ohio State (-20, 49) - The Spartans are getting no respect in Ohio, and maybe for good reason. The Buckeyes are ranked #4 in points allowed, giving up an average of just 8.6 per game.
7:30 pm Tulsa at #24 SMU (-13, 64) - The Mustangs are running wild, racking up a 5-0 record with road wins over TCU, 41-38, and South Florida, 48-21, over the past two weeks. They're just 1-0 in conference and can bolster their top 25 ranking by taking the measure of the Golden Hurricane.
8:00 pm California at #13 Oregon (-18, 46) - Just a few weeks ago, the Golden Bears were ranked and considered a threat in the PAC-12. What happened? They lost, 24-17, to Arizona State, making both teams 4-1.
8:00 pm Pittsburgh at Duke (-5, 48) - Statistically, Duke's defense is better than Pitt's, but the Panthers showed what they're made of in a 17-10 loss to Penn State and their 35-34 upset of UCF. The Panthers lost to Virginia, 30-14, in their first game of the season, but since have made progress.
