Saturday, December 28

Fenway Bowl
11:00 am UConn vs. North Carolina (-3, 52.5) (ESPN) - The Tar Hels weren't very good this season, 3-5 in the ACC and just 6-6 overall. They did manage to win three straight (Virginia, Florida St., Wake Forest), but lost their final two games, 41-21, at Boston College, and 35-30 in their rivalry meeting with NC State.

The Huskies, playing as an independent, went 8-4, and other than their opener, a 50-7 loss at Maryland, they held their own against ACC teams, losing to Duke, 26-21, Wake Forest, 23-20, and Syracuse, 31-24. They should be fired up enough to notch a ninth win.

Coin Flip: UConn

Fearless Rick's Pick: Huskies 31 Tar Heels 27

Pinstripe Bowl
12:00 pm Boston College vs. Nebraska (-3, 45.5) (ABC) - As has been the case the last two years since the arrival of the "savior" head coach, Matt Rhule, the Cornhuskers were a major disappointment, 3-6 in the Big Ten and 6-6 overall, a marginal improvement over the 5-7 mark in 2023.

Boston College should wallop them. The Eagles were 4-4 in the ACC and 7-5 overall, with notable wins over Michigan State, Syracuse, and Pitt. They have plenty of offense and a more than adequate defense.

Coin Flip: Boston College

Fearless Rick's Pick: Eagles 44 Cornhuskers 27

New Mexico Bowl
2:15 pm Louisiana vs. TCU (-12, 57.5) (ESPN) - Hard to believe this line. The Ragin' Cajuns were no joke in 2024, finishing atop the Sun Belt West with a 7-1 mark before getting punked by Marshall in the championship, 31-3.

QB Ben Wooldridge, the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, who missed the Cajuns' final three games and the championship with a broken collarbone, will start against the Horned Frogs.

TCU also went 8-4, including a 6-3 record in the Big 12, winning five of their last six. QB Josh Hoover threw for 3,697 yards and 23 TDs, so expect both teams to really air it out. Given 12 points, Louisiana looks to upset.

Coin Flip: TCU

Fearless Rick's Pick: Ragin' Cajuns 42 Horned Frogs 40

Pop-Tarts Bowl
3:30 pm 18 Iowa State vs. 13 Miami (-3, 55) (ABC) - Solid match-up between two teams that just missed entry into the CFP. Miami, the ACC entrant, went 10-2, losing only to Georgia Tech, 28-23, and Syracuse, 42-38, two of their final three games. Cam Ward threw 36 TD passes and was a Heisman candidate. Miami's issues are on defense. They basically need to outscore their opponents in track meet fashion.

Iowa State was 10-3 in the Big 12, losing in the championship game to Arizona State, 45-19. They have a fairly balanced run-pass offense and reliable defense. Miami will not likely be able to stop them much at all.

Coin Flip: Miami

Fearless Rick's Pick: Cyclones 38 Hurricanes 34

Arizona Bowl
4:30 pm Miami (OH) (-2.5, 55.5) vs. Colorado State - Colorado State's Rams finished at 6-1 in the Mountain West, behind Boise State and UNLV, and went 11-3 overall. They allowed the fewest points (139) of any MWC team.

The RedHawks went 8-5 (7-1 in the MAC), but got hammered by Ohio, 38-3, in the conference championship game. Considering how many of the bowl games this season have been extremely competitive, take the Rams in a close one.

Coin Flip: Miami (OH)

Fearless Rick's Pick: Rams 24 RedHawks 21

Military Bowl
5:45 pm East Carolina vs. NC State (-6, 59) (ESPN) - Despite a shoddy defense, the Pirates finished fifth in the AAC this season, with five wins and three losses, a 7-5 record overall.

Considering that NC State was 3-5 in the ACC, 6-6 overall, and allowed 366 points in 12 games, whichever tam has the ball last is likely to win this shoot-out.

Take the Pirates and the points, matey!

Coin Flip: NC State

Fearless Rick's Pick: Pirates 37 Wolfpack 34

Alamo Bowl
7:30 pm 17 BYU vs. 20 Colorado (-4, 54.5) (ABC) - Well, the Buffaloes have the Heisman winner, Coach Prime, plenty of athletes and hype going for them, along with a 9-3 mark (7-2, Big 12), but they are facing a Cougar team that finished 10-2, losing only to Kansas 17-13 and Arizona State, 28-23, just missing the championship game, so this works out to a contest for third place in the Big 12.

The two teams didn't meet in 2024, but the -4 line favoring the Buffs is probably the result of hype and hope. BYU could easily triumph.

Coin Flip: BYU

Fearless Rick's Pick: Cougars 34 Buffaloes 24

Independence Bowl
9:15 pm Louisiana Tech vs. 22 Army (-16, 44.5) (ESPN) - The Bulldogs, with a 5-7 record, only are playing in this game because Marshall - due to transfers and a coaching change - opted out of participation. Louisiana was 4-4 in Conference USA.

Army, which led the nation in rushing yards, will likely roll to a huge victory, looking to make amends for their 31-13 flop against Navy.

Coin Flip: Louisiana Tech

Fearless Rick's Pick: Black Knights 31 Bulldogs 17

Monday, December 30

Music City Bowl
2:30 pm Iowa vs. 19 Missouri (-3, 41) (ESPN) - Iowa was left for dead after a 32-20 loss at Michigan State and a 4-3 record. Brendan Sullivan replaced Cade McNamara at QB, they won two of three, then Sullivan injured an ankle in a 20-17 loss to UCLA, and walk-on Jackson Stratton took over, winning the final two games of the season over Maryland and Nebraska.

Sullivan will start against the Mizzou, with Stratton as backup. Iowa's defense is the key. The 8-4 (6-3, Big Ten) Hawkeyes were ninth in tthe nation in points allowed (17.1 per game).

9-3 Missouri rates a slight favorite out of the SEC, where they were 5-3. Losses at Texas A&M, 41-10, and Alabama, 34-0, stand out. The other loss was at South Carolina, 34-30. Wouldn't be a surprise if Iowa tramples them.

Coin Flip: Iowa

Fearless Rick's Pick: Hawkeyes 27 Tigers 13
