Navy at Memphis (-4.5, 59) 7:30 pm (ESPN) - The Tigers lost all hope of reaching the CFP with consecutive losses to Tulane and East Carolina and won’t even make the AAC championship game (4-3 in conference). If they can penetrate the Navy secondary, they should be OK, though that’s a big if. The other question is how well their defense holds up against the run-heavy Navy offense. The Tigers have allowed 69 points in their last two games.
The Middies have been consistent and come into this game off a 41-38 upset of #24 South Florida (41-38) with an 82 record (6-1 in conference). They have every right to win with their strong ground game.
Coin Flip: Navy
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Midshipmen 31 Tigers 26
7 Ole Miss (-7, 62.5) at Mississippi State 12:00 pm (ABC) - Big state rivalry which means everything to the Bulldogs since a win gives them bragging right and bowl eligibility. State is just 1-6 in the SEC and 5-6 overall.
Standing in their way are the Rebels with much higher aspirations. Their one loss to Georgia keeps them out of the SEC title game, which could be a blessing in disguise, giving them an extra week off before the CFP and allowing them to focus on the task at hand. They could get into the SEC championship if both Alabama and Texas A&M lose this week. Hard to see them losing this despite playing in enemy territory.
Coin Flip: Ole Mss
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Rebels 34 Bulldogs 21
Utah has outscored their opponents 204-96, the last four weeks, including the wild, 51-47, win over Kansas State. The Jayhawks are 5-6 overall and need a win to reach a bowl game, though that doesn’t seem possible.
Coin Flip: Utah
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Utes 45 Jayhawks 17
Georgia’s defense has been solid all season and the offense has a variety of playmakers with ability to score from anywhere on the field. Georgia Tech has had issues of defense, allowing 130 points over the past three games, two of them losses. If they don’t turn the ball over, the Yellow Jackets can cover the spread, but winning this game is a big reach.
Coin Flip: Georgia Tech
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Bulldogs 38 Yellow Jackets 27
Even if the Aggies lose, they could get into the championship game if both Alabama and Mississippi lose and play Georgia, though that scenario seems unlikely. A&M’s offense should be able to find holes in the Texas defense, though sparingly. On offense, the Longhorns face a long day of struggle against a defense that continues to improve.
Coin Flip: Texas A&M
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Aggies 28 Longhorns 17
Arizona State has a good enough defense and a potentially explosive offense to win and hope.
Coin Flip: Arizona State
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Sun Devils 24 Wildcats 21
