![]() SNAP CENTRAL 2009 - Fearless Rick's NFL & College Football Picks Update, 1/08/10: Alabama came through late in the game to win and cover in the national championship game against Texas, which put me just over the 50% mark on the 34 college bowl games with a record of 17-16-1, though I must point out that I went 5-0 when it counted, correctly picking all 5 BCS games. For the entire college season, including bowl games: 109-106-7 (51%)
NFL Week 17: 8-8-0
Update, 1/02/10: Updating NFL picks from the last two weeks: NFL Totals through Week 16: 133-104-5 (55%) winning season guaranteed! Which conference will produce the best results during bowl season, and how will the bowl games change the final Top 25 standings? Check out our Final Top 25 and College Bowl Scoreboard updated daily throughout Bowl Season until the National Championship, January 7, 2010. Update, 12/16/09: Another month of picks and it's on to the college bowl games. Here are Updated college picks:
Week 12 (November 21): 5-8 NFL picks udated:
Week 10: 8-6-1 NFL Totals through Week 14: 118-89-3 (56%) Update, 11/15/09: Can hardly believe that it's been a month since updating my picks. Time really does fly when you're having fun (and picking strong)
Here are the updated college stats through games of 11/14:
NFL Week 5: 11-3 Update, 10/11/09: College picks were a strong 7-4, getting my college game back into a positive groove at 38-36 for the season. Update, 10/10/09: Week 5 College picks went 6-7, with all of the late games going wrong (for me), and pushing my college record into the red, at 31-32 overall. Week 4 NFL Picks were possibly my best ever, going a very strong 11-3, upping the Pro Regular Season picks to 44-20. $100 on every game this season would have netted - minus the vig on losses - a net profit of $2200 ($4400-2200=$2200). Update, 9/29/09: An incredibly strong week for both college and NFL picks, with a 9-4 record on college games and an 11-5 slate on the pros.
Here are the updated stats:
Week 3 NFL: 11-5 NFL Preseason: 32-31-2
Total, all picks, Year to Date: 88-73-2 NFL Preseason Week 4 proved why it's folly to bet games that don't matter. Compiling by far my worst week of the entire preseason at 4-12, I head to the regular season with a 32-31-2 record. Week 1 of the NFL season was highly profitable, with an 11-5 record, capped off by my Monday night pick of the Raiders covering against the Chargers. Week 2 in the NFL was still positive, though less so. Putting up a 9-7 mark (Thank you, Peyton Manning!) puts me at a very solid 20-12 on the pros. The first week of the college season presented so many unknowns, and I fell into a 5-9 funk. A discouraging opening week in the NCAA. Week 2 in the college ranks began badly as Georgia Tech blew a 21-0 lead, but still won, 30-27, and didn't cover the 5 1/2-point line. Stanford blew a 17-3 first half lead and lost by a TD to Wake Forest when they were getting 3. Michigan's win over the Irish and TCU's handling of Virginia helped even things up. Purdue, keeping thigs close at Oregon helped me to a 5-5 week and a 10-14 record overall. In week 3, the Texas Longhorns, who went 3-0 after a 10-point win over Texas Tech, kept me from a positive week. The Longhorns haven't covered a line yet, and I went down with them to a 6-7 record, putting me at 16-21 overall, with high hopes for better numbers going forward. Adding it all up, 16-21 college, 32-31-2 NFL preseason, and 20-12 in the NFL regular season, my record of 68-64-2 is actually quite an accomplishment, being that preseason and college are so tough. My 20-12 record in the pros stands up to even the best sports handicappers in the business. Update 9/1: Monday night is just not kind to me. With the Vikings getting their 17-10 win at Texas, my record for the week slipped to 8-8, still .500, but less than expectations, especially in Week 3, which is traditionally the one week in which the starters get the most action. The late first half injury to Matt Schaub certainly didn't help, but at least showboating Brett Favre didn't pierce the goal line in the second half. The Texans need some help run blocking, or is it just that Steve Slaton isn't good enough to be a full time back? Anyway, my record so far is 28-19-2, virtually assuring a fat bankroll heading into the regular season. Update 8/25: With two weeks of preseason games in the books, my record speaks for itself: Week 2 came in at 9-7, as Troy Smith (sacked 3 times, plus and INT), allowed the Jets to cover the Monday night line, even though the Ravens won, 24-23. That puts my record at 20-11-2 so far, halfway through the preseason schedule. Update 8/18: First week of preseason picks, and we're off to an outstanding start, going 11-4-2, including the Hall of Fame game (a push). On to week two, and, advertisers, please note that there are more spots available for full season advertising. Update 8/10: AFC Previews are all complete, so the entire league has been previewed and analyzed. On Tuesday, 8/11, we start with the college football preview, teams 11-25, and the Top Ten on Wednesday. Preseason game picks will be posted on Tuesday as well. In the preseason opener at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Bills backers got a boost when Buffalo rallied from a 21-3 deficit to close to within 21-16 on Reggie Corner's interception return for a TD midway through the 4th quarter. The Bills were unable to capitalize on their momentum, and with the Titans lining up for a punt with the clock under 10 seconds, A.J. Trapasso, who scored the opening TD on a 40-yard fake punt, returned the favor and anaswered many prayers as he took the snap and retreated to the end zone, eventually stepping out of it for a game-ending safety and a 3-point win for Tennessee, 21-18, which was exactly the number of points by which the Titans were favored. That little trot had to get the conspriacy nuts going and it's likely that many Tennessee bettors are still in a state of shock, but it portends good things for the Bills. Not only did Buffalo keep on playing, when the game was set against them, they shut out the Titans for the entire second half and Terrell Owens was absolutely a gentleman on the sidelines. Chalk up a push and an emotional lift for the Bills. Update 8/8: AFC East Preview is up on line, as is the pick for the Hall of Fame Game between Tennessee and Buffalo. Preseason Week 1 picks to follow on Tuesday, 8/11. AFC North, South and West Previews will be online Sunday, 8/9. Update 8/7: Due to family matters (my father died three weeks ago and being named executor to the estate, I have been under severe time constraints), the AFC Previews will be up on site over the weekend. Apologies for the delay, but they just could not be avoided. Every effort is being made to catch up with previews and the college Top 25 previews ASAP. By the middle of next week - around Aug. 12 - all of the previews should be online along with pre-season game picks. NFC South and NFC West Previews have been added as of 8/6. The Hall of Fame Game (Buffalo vs. Tennessee, Aug. 9) will be posted by 5:00 pm ET, today, Aug. 7. Update 8/2: The NFC East and NFC North Previews are up on the site and ready for viewing. Other pages are being added all during this week. Today, the NFC South Preview will be added, along with schedules for each of the NFL weeks. Predictions for the Hall of Fame Game (Aug. 8), later this week. Update 7/29: NFL preseason begins on August 8, with college football kicking off late in August. In the meantime, I'll be updating all pages with fresh info, beginning with NFL Previews through the first week of August, with a new division preview each day, and the NCAA Top 25 Preview the following week. By that time, we'll be into NFL preseason games, with picks each week, as usual.
