Results:
8:00 pm North Carolina at #16 Miami (-18, 55 1/2) - After opening with a 33-17 loss to LSU, the Hurricanes have run up three straight wins, the last two over pretty good teams, Toledo and FIU.
Carolina lost their first two, at Cal and East Carolina, but got themselves on the right path with a 38-35 win over Pitt. Now that conference play is underway, expect the better teams to separate themselves, but the Tar Heels were just 3-9 last year, yet lost at Miami 24-19. They're better this season, and should be around with a chance at the end.
Coin Flip: North Carolina
PREDICTION: Hurricanes 31 Tar Heels 24
8:00 pm Memphis (-14, 67 1/2) at Tulane - At 1-3, Tulane's Green Wave might be waving opponents into the end zone much of the remainder of the season in the American Athletic. They have serious defensive issues, which won't help matters against the Tigers, who are tied at #10 with Syracuse, putting up an average of 49.5 points per game.
This one shouldn't be very close and probably will go way over.
Coin Flip: Tulane
PREDICTION: Tigers 56 Green Wave 20
Having already booked losses to Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Fresno State - and none of them were close games - the Bruins are in need of some actual players on both sides of the ball. They've looked horrible so far and they're unlikely to have improved much in the two week interim after their 38-14 embarrassment against Fresno State. Look for Colorado to dominate possession time and the score.
Coin Flip: UCLA
PREDICTION: Buffaloes 35 Bruins 16
12:00 pm Syracuse at #3 Clemson (-24, 66 1/2) - Last year, the Orange were the only team to beat Clemson during the regular season, winning at the Carrier Dome, 27-24, so it would be reasonable to expect the Tigers to be on guard against the explosive Syracuse offense.
The Orange is 4-0, unranked, but a solid team on the rise. after a 55-42 win at Western Michigan to open the season, the defense stiffened, as witnessed in their wins over Wagner (62-10) and Florida State (30-7). Syracuse is looking for some respect, but they didn't get it from the oddsmakers, that's for sure. They're good enough to keep this close and possibly stun the Tigers again.
Turnovers and attention to detail could turn the tide for either team.
Coin Flip: Syracuse
PREDICTION: Tigers 31 Orange 24
West Virginia looks darn good on paper, having racked up three wins over so-so opposition, and they too can play defense, which should go a long way in the conference. The Mountaineers are tied with Utah atop the points per game allowed stats, at 12.3, so they're no joke. This could be a wild one, so take the points and hope for some home cooking.
Coin Flip: Texas Tech
PREDICTION: Red Raiders 42 Mountaineers 38
If this trend continues, Baylor will get close but not win and that massive spread is your friend.
Coin Flip: Oklahoma
PREDICTION: Sooners 38 Bears 24
Pitt is 2-2, coming off a 38-35 loss at North Caroina and before that beat Georgia Tech, 24-19 (their best effort of the season). Penn State beat them 51-6. Most would take their chances with Central Florida running up the score here.
Coin Flip: UCF
PREDICTION: Knights 45 Panthers 24
Kansas State is 2-2, both losses to ranked teams: 31-10 to Miss. St. and 35-6 at West Virginia, last week. Hard to believe the Wildcats can stay on the same field with the Longhorns for 60 minutes.
Coin Flip: Kansas State
PREDICTION: Longhorns 38 Wildcats 13

9:00 pm UCLA at Colorado (-9 1/2, 60 1/2) - The Buffaloes aren't a great team, but they may be ranked if they win this game decisively. They're 3-0, are well-balanced, and may have a say in the PAC-12 South before the season is over.
Saturday, September 29
12:00 pm #12 West Virginia (-3 1/2, 77) at #25 Texas Tech - Following an opening loss to Ole Miss, 47-27, the Red Raiders have gotten their act together and can play some defense, an oddity in the pass-happy Big 12. Last week's 41-17 shocker over Oklahoma State got Tech into the bottom of the Top 25, and a good showing or a win here may keep them there. The question is whether or not they're for real or just a flash in the pan. We're about to find out.
3:30 pm Baylor at #6 Oklahoma (-23 1/2, 68 1/2) - Baylor has already exceeded their win total for 2017 (1-11), with three wins and a loss to Duke, so they may not be the pushover the line suggests. Last year, they went toe-to-toe with the Sooners, finally succumbing, 49-41. With this game at OU, a Sooner victory is pretty much a foregone conclusion, but Oklahoma's last two games were not exactly blowouts - a 37-27 win at Iowa State and a 28-21 OT win over Army at home.
3:30 pm Pittsburgh at #13 UCF (-13 1/2, 66) - Let's see, UCF hasn't lost a game since 2016. The Knights are 3-0 this season and have outscored their opponents a combined 150-53.
3:30 pm #18 Texas (-9, 48) at Kansas State - Texas, to the shock and horror of the rest of the Big 12 conference, is back and bold. Their win over USC could have been discounted as a home win over an overrated opponent, but last week's TCU 31-16 trouncing was no fluke. The Longhorns whipped them by more points than did Ohio State (40-28).
