Friday, September 13

6:00 pm North Carolina at Wake Forest (-3, 66) - The Tar Heels have scored two impressive wins - over South Carolina and Miami - yet find themselves underdogs on the road in a home state rivalry.

With victories over Utah State (38-35) and Rice (41-21), the Demon Deacons are off to a 2-0 start and face a test of their defense against NC. The Deacons are loaded offensively, so this should be a fun show.

Coin Flip: Wake Forest

Prediction: Tar Heels 34 Demon Deacons 30

9:15 pm #20 Washington State (-9, 74) at Houston - Following an 11-2 mark in 2018, the Cougars have picked up right where they left off, with blowout wins over New Mexico State (58-7) and Northern Colorado (59-17).

Houston figures to be a little tougher opponent. They lost their opener, at Oklahoma, 49-31, but made some big plays. Last week they pounded Prairie View, 37-17. Their offense should be primed and this all-Cougar meeting figures to be close.

Coin Flip: Washington State

Prediction: Washington State 42 Houston 37

Saturday, September 14

12:00 pm #6 Ohio State (-16 1/2, 61) at Indiana - Last season, the Buckeyes won at home in this match-up, 49-26. Ohio State is off to a 2-0 start in impressive fashion, topping Florida Atlantic, 45-21, and Cincinnati, 42-0.

Indiana's win over Ball State and a 52-0 tune-up over Eastern Illinois should have caught the Buckeye defense's attention. Equally, Ohio State's dominating defense against the Bearcats was eye-catching. Ohio State is a wrecking ball.

Coin Flip: Ohio State

Prediction: Buckeyes 45 Hoosiers 17

12:00 pm Pittsburgh at #13 Penn State (-17, 53) - A 30-14 loss at home to Virginia and a 20-10 win over Ohio tells the Pitt story. They're looking like an also-ran in the ACC, and shouldn't be an issue for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State has become an offensive juggernaut, ripping Idaho, 79-7, and topping a pretty good Buffalo team last week, 45-13. Home for their third straight week, players should be rested and ready.

Coin Flip: Pittsburgh

Prediction: Nittany Lions 49 Panthers 14

12:00 pm Kansas State at Mississippi State (-8, 52) - The Wildcats have taken a positive route to this game, with blowout wins over Nicholls (49-14) and Bowling Green (52-0). Seemingly, all the kinks have been worked out on both sides of the ball in preparation for real action against the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State may be a bit lacking on defense, and that could pose a problem. While they're also 2-0, their wins over Louisiana (38-28) and Southern Miss. (38-15) have exposed deficiencies. Both opponents moved the ball effectively but could not slow down the Bulldog offense. The Wildcats may do so, and pull off a big upset.

Coin Flip: Kansas State

Prediction: Wildcats 34 Bulldgos 31

2:30 pm New Mexico at #7 Notre Dame (-35, 63 1/2) - The Lobos haven't played since August 31, when they nipped Sam Houston State, 39-31, so there's not much data to gauge them.

Notre Dame was last seen on September 2, in a lackluster road performance over Louisville, a 35-17 victory. It's assumed that the Irish will dominate at home, though five touchdowns may be a stretch per margin of victory.

Coin Flip: Notre Dame

Prediction: Fighting Irish 42 Lobos 14
