Friday, September 20

9:00 pm #10 Utah (-4, 52 1/2) at USC - After solid wins over Fresno State and Stanford, USC was stunned in OT at BYU, 30-27, and faces another tough foe from the Beehive State in the undefeated Utes.

Utah hasn't played any power conference teams, but their 30-12 win at BYU is notable for comparison purposes and their defense appears to be rock solid.

Coin Flip: Utah

Prediction: Utes 31 Trojans 17

9:00 pm Air Force at #20 Boise State (-7 1/2, 55) - The 2-0 Falcons usually field a competitive team and their 30-23 overtime win at Colorado proves they are ready to play with the middle teams in power conferences.

This is a Mountain West conference game, and it should be a good benchmark for both teams. Last season, the Broncos won 48-38, at home, but Air Force is better this season and can hang with Boise.

Coin Flip: Boise State

Prediction: Broncos 31 Falcons 28

Saturday, September 21

12:00 pm #4 LSU (-24, 62 1/2) at Vanderbilt - The Commodores chose a very tough schedule to open the 2019 campaign. They lost to Georgia in week one, and at Purdue in week two, taking last week off prior to this SEC contest.

LSU is absolutely loaded and took down Texas in week two, 45-38. Don't think Vandy will be able to stay with them in the second half.

Coin Flip: LSU

Prediction: Tigers 48 Commodores 16

12:00 pm Tennessee at #9 Florida (-14, 49) - Had a few plays gone differently for the Vols, they might be 3-0 instead of 1-2. They lost their opener to GeorgiaState, 38-30, then were downed in OT by BYU, 29-26. Last week they took it out on Chattanooga, topping their home-state rivals, 45-0. That was a good tune up for conference play and just in time. Hitting the road won't help their cause, however.

Outside of their 45-0 romp over UT-Martin, Miami's games could have gone either way. They slipped by Miami, 24-20, in week one, and escaped at Kentucky, 29-21, though their final TD came on a 79-yard run with 0:33 left to play. The Gators scored 19 fourth quarter points to defeat the Wildcats. If Tennessee has any confidence at all, they may shock all of Florida here.

Coin Flip: Tennessee

Prediction: Volunteers 23 Gators 21

12:00 pm #11 Michigan at #13 Wisconsin (-3 1/2, 44 1/2) - The Wolverines took last week off after nipping Army, 24-21, in double OT. Michigan is 2-0, but as yet unproven.

Wisconsin offers an imposing defense upon which nobody has scored. The Badgers dropped a 49-0 rip on South Florida and demolished Central Michigan, 61-0, in their home opener. Michigan's offense isn't top-notch, making the Badgers an easy choice.

Coin Flip: Michigan

Prediction: Badgers 31 Wolverines 13

12:00 pm Michigan State (-9 1/2, 38) at Northwestern - The second of two key noon games in the Big Ten features the 2-1 Spartans at the 1-1 Wildcats.

Northwestern usually fields a good team, but their 17-7 loss at Stanford in week one says this team may not be ready for prime time. Michigan State lost at home to Arizona State, 10-7, in a game in which they were heavily favored. Look for another low-scoring contest which will likely be decided by a TD or less.

Coin Flip: Michigan State

Prediction: Wildcats 20 Spartans 13
