NFL Week 1 Picks - Late Games
NFL Week 1 Late Games
All times Eastern
4:05 pm at Cincinnati Bengals at Seattle Seahawks (-9 1/2, 44) - AJ Green is out for the Bengals and that spells serious trouble for them at Seattle.
The Seahawks were only 6-2 at home last season, but their locale remains one of the toughest places to play in the entire NFL. Bengals have too many question marks against a team that should be going to the playoffs this year.
Coin Flip: Seattle
Prediction: Seahawks 31 Bengals 6
The Colts were 10-6 in 2018, the Chargers went 12-4 and both made the playoffs. The difference is that Phillip Rivers is still taking snaps; Andrew Luck is not. Colts' QB Jacoby Brissett has some big shoes to fill.
Coin Flip: LA Chargers
Prediction: Chargers 26 Colts 13
The Lions are a mediocre football team and the Cardinals are probably good enough to beat them straight up, especially at home.
Coin Flip: Detroit
Prediction: Cardinals 17 Lions 14
Cowboys romp here.
Coin Flip: NY Giants
Prediction: Cowboys 35 Giants 7
Tampa Bay has pinned their hopes on James Winston for three years without success, but it's not entirely his fault. Their defense gave up more points (464) in 2018 than any other team except Oakland (467). 49er offense should be up to the task.
Coin Flip: Tampa Bay
Prediction: 49ers 34 Buccaneers 31
The Steelers sorely want to win this one, and they should keep it close enough to cover.
Coin Flip: Pittsburgh
Prediction: Patriots 26 Steelers 23
7:10 pm at Houston Texans at New Orleans Saints (-7, 53) - Everybody knows that the Saints got robbed last year in the playoffs, but they may be overlooking the fact that Houston won the AFC South and may even be improved upon this season.
Deshaun Watson is the real deal. The Saints are going to be shocked.
Coin Flip: New Orleans
Prediction: Texans 31 Saints 24
Surprisingly, the game came up even for the sharpies in Vegas, but there are likely to be few surprises coming from Denver, who starts Joe Flacco at QB. Despite a horrid, 4-12, mark last year, the Raiders were 3-1 preseason, and should be ready to rock and contend in the AFC West. Denver wasn't much better in 2018, with a 6-10 record.
Coin Flip: Oakland
Prediction: Raiders 24 Broncos 17

Week 1 early Games
4:05 pm at Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers (-6 1/2, 44 1/2) - Andrew Luck's sudden retirement dealt a hard blow to the Colts' chances this season and beyond.
4:25 pm at Detroit Lions (-2 1/2, 47) at Arizona Cardinals - Despite the 3-13 record by the Cardinals in 2018, the Lions weren't much better, going 6-10. At least there's excitement in Arizona with Kyler Murray at QB for the Cardinals. Detroit sticks with Matthew Stafford, who has led the Lions to what, exactly?
4:25 pm at New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-7, 45 1/2) - Sorry, Giants fans, this is not the football team you expected. Since the departure of coach Coughlin, the G-men have looked more like F-Troop.
4:25 pm at San Francisco 49ers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1, 50) - In one of the more interesting match-ups of the opening weekend, both teams are seeking vast improvement, whereas reality says that one of them may go 8-8. The winner of this game is probably going to be hailed as a "contender" for a while, so, this bears watching.
8:20 pm at Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots (-5 1/2, 51) - Finally, the league gets a peek at ageless Tom Brady, but the Steelers will have an up-close and personal time with the future Hall of Fame QB and that's not a good thing.
Monday, September 9
10:20 pm at Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders (even, 43) - This one ought to be easyŠ for the Raiders. They're at home, coach Gruden has a full year under his belt and the Broncos appeared to be unprepared through the first three weeks of preseason.
