8:00 pm UAB at Miami (FL) (-14, 54 1/2) - For the Hurricanes, this is the season opener. UAB held off Central Arkansas, 45-35, last week, and the game already played is an advantage for the Blazers.
They're going to need all the help they can get, because UAB doesn't fare well against solid FBS teams as 2019 losses to Tennessee (30-7), Southern Miss (37-2), and Florida Atlantic (49-6) illustrate.
Miami looks to improve on a 6-7 season with a quality defense and improvement on offense. The 'Canes averaged just 25.7 points per game in 2019.
Coin Flip: UAB
Prediction: Hurricanes 35 Blazers 13
12:00 pm Syracuse at #18 North Carolina (-23, 65 1/2) - Struggling through a 5-7 campaign in 2019, the Orange seek to improve, but this opener on the road will be a chalenge. North Carolina returns from a 7-6 campaign, but their losses were by a combined total of 26 points, including a 21-20 loss to Clemson and a 43-41 defeat in six OTs at Virginia Tech.
Late in the season the Tar Heels put it all together, finishing the regular season with a 41-10 win at NC State and then a 55-13 win over Temple in the Military Bowl.
Coin Flip: Syracuse
Prediction: North Carolina 48 Syracuse 16
Louisiana put up an 11-3 mark, avenging a 45-38 loss in the Sun Belt championship to Appalachian State by topping Miami (OH), 27-17, in the LendingTree Bowl. Iowa State was 7-6 against mostly Big 12 competition.
Neither teams boasts defense, so this could be a last man standing kind of finish.
Coin Flip: Louisiana
Prediction: Cyclones 36 Ragin' Cajuns 34
Led by senior QB Skylar Thompson, Kansas State should manage to dominate the Red Wolves and win going away.
Coin Flip: Arkansas State
Prediction: Wildcats 42 Red Wolves 19
Brice will have to be exceptional against the Irish, which returns with a stout defense that allowed only 18.7 points per game in 2019 (14th) and went 11-2, losing only to Georgia and Michigan. QB Ian Book returns for his senior season. The Irish clobbered Duke 38-7 last year on the road.
Coin Flip: Duke
Prediction: Fighting Irish 44 Blue Devils 20

NCAA Week 2 late Games
Saturday, September 12
12:00 pm Louisiana at #23 Iowa State (-11 1/2, 57) - Here's an offensive showcase to get college football Saturday started. The Ragin' Cajuns were 10th in the nation last season in scoring, putting up 37.9 ppg, while the Cyclones weren't far behind, at 32.2.
12:00 pm Arkansas State at Kansas State (-10 1/2, 54 1/2) - In their season opener, the Red Wolves played well but still lost at Memphis last week, 37-24. They'll face another tough opponent in K-State, a team that went 8-5 last year, including a 48-41 upset of Oklahoma. The Wildcats went 5-3 down the stretch, but their losses were by 3 at Texas, by 4 to West Virginia and a 20-17 loss to Navy in the Liberty Bowl closed out the season.
2:30 pm Duke at #10 Notre Dame (-20, 54) - Tough way to start out the season for the Blue Devils, who are taking on quality opposition in openers, losing last season to Alabama, 42-3 en route to a forgettable 5-7 season. Duke brings in graduate transfer Chase Brice from Clemson after he backed up Trevor Lawrence the past two seasons and he should give the offense a boost.
