2:30 South Florida at #7 Notre Dame (-25 1/2, 49) - Opening their season with a 27-6 win over The Citadel last Saturday doesn't really say much about this South Florida team, except that they're capable of beating up on inferior competition. They did that last season, as a 55-16 win over South Carolina State proved, but against quality foes, they basically didn't show up. Losses to Wisconsin (49-0), SMU (48-21), Navy (35-3), and UCF (34-7) were telling.
Notre Dame was not as dominant as they would have liked to have been in their season opener over Duke. A 27-13 result wasn't quite the blowout performance some had expected, but the Irish are a work in progress with lots of new faces on offense though QB Ian Book is back. The defense was solid enough and in week 2, Notre Dame may show what they're really like. That 25 1/2-point line is much to overcome and South Florida should be somewhat improved.
Coin Flip: South Florida
Prediction: Fighting Irish 34 Bulls 13
Appalachian State was also a winner, taking a 35-20 decision over Charlotte, though one has to question he defense giving up that many points to a clearly inferior squad.
The Thundering Herd returns plenty of players from a team that finished 8-5 in 2019 and is likely a bit underrated by the oddsmakers here..
Coin Flip: Appalachian State
Prediction: Thundering Herd 28 Mountaineers 24
UCF wasn't their usual unbeatable self in 2019, going 10-3, culminating with a 48-25 win over Marshall in the Gasparilla Bowl. They figure to be a top 25 team once again and the outcome of this game will reveal much for both teams.
Coin Flip: UCF
Prediction: Yellow Jackets 30 Knights 26
Home field may mean something to Louisville as they are allowing about a 30% occupancy for home games, or, roughly 18,000 fans, something both teams can probably appreciate.
Last season, the Hurricanes took the measure of the Cardinals, 52-27, though that was played in Miami. QB D'Eriq King and RB Cam'Ron Harris may be too much for Louisville's defense to handle.
Coin Flip: Miami
Prediction: Hurricanes 41 Cardinals 27
This is NC State's season opener but Wake Forest figures to have answers.
Coin Flip: NC State
Prediction: Demon Deacons 27 NC State 21

Week 3 Early Games
3:30 pm #24 Appalachian State (-4 1/2, 61) at Marshall - Coming out of the Sun Belt, the Mountaineers may be up against it when they travel to Conference USA's Marshall, as the Thundering Herd looked impressive demolishing Eastern Kentucky last week, 59-0.
3:30 #14 UCF (-7 1/2, 60) at Georgia Tech - Don't sleep on the Yellow Jackets in 2020. Even though they were horrible last year, going 3-9, they opened 2020 with a solid, 16-13 win at Florida State. Freshman QB Jeff Sims has to take better care of the ball, as he tossed two picks against the Seminoles, but he was on target 24 of 35 times for 277 yards and a TD. He also ran for 64 yards in the win.
7:00 pm #17 Miami at #18 Louisville (-2 1/2, 64 1/2) - Hopefully, this prime time (ABC) game will prove to be a solid ACC contest. Both teams come off week 1 victories. Louisville handled Western Kentucky, 35-21, while the Hurricanes drowned UAB, 31-14.
8:00 pm Wake Forest at NC State (-2 1/2, 53) - Wake Forest was expected to lose their opener against Clemson, but they held their own in a 37-13 loss. This week's opponent won't be as formidable, as the Wolfpack closed out a 4-8 season in 2019 with six straight losses including a 44-10 beatdown by the Demon Deacons.
