Auburn at 9 Texas A&M (-6.5, 52.5) 3:30 pm (ESPN) - Auburn shot itself in the foot too many times in their 24-17 loss at Oklahoma last week. QB Jackson Arnold was sacked nine times, the last one resulting in a safety.

The Aggies are coming off a 42-41 win at Notre Dame and they’ve had a week off since then, so they should be rested and not emotionally drained. This A&M squad has some good things going for it and may continue to improve as the season progresses. The Tigers are not to be taken lightly and could keep this close, but the home team seems to be legit.

Coin Flip: Texas A&M

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Aggies 27 Tigers 17

11 Indiana (-7.5, 48.5) at Iowa 3:30 pm (PEAC) - The Hoosiers pack a punch on offense. They are second in the country in total yards (588.5 per game) and are scoring at a 52.5 points per game clip.

Iowa’s defense is one of the better ones around, allowing 14.5 points per contest, but they are not an elite bunch. Besides, the offense will be under the gun. Indiana’s defense is allowing just 8.3 points and 25.8 yards per game. Coming off a 63-10 dismantling of Illinois last week, Indiana may take another step here towards proving that they are a legitimate threat to the best in the Big Ten.

Coin Flip: Indiana

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Hoosiers 45.Hawkeyes 20

4 LSU at 13 Ole Miss (-1.5, 54.5) 3:30 pm (ABC) - Simply put, even though both teams here are 4-0, the level of competition varies greatly, tilting towards the Tigers. Ole Miss has defeated Georgia State (63-7), Kentucky (30-23), Arkansas (41-35), and Tulane (45-10).

LSU has wins over Clemson (17-10), Louisiana Tech (23-7), Florida (20-10), and SE Louisiana (56-10). The difference is in the quality and depth of LSU’s defense. The Rebels will be lucky to find the end zone against a tough bunch of Tigers.

Coin Flip: Ole Miss

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Tigers 30 Rebels 10

1 Ohio State (-8.5, 52) at Washington 3:30 pm (CBS) - While both teams are 3-0, neither has played any games of consequence outside of Ohio State’s 14-7 win over Texas in the opening weekend.

Washington enters the fray with the leading scoring offense in the country, at 61.7 points per game. That stat is not likely to cause any Buckeye defenders to lose much sleep as the points were scored against inferior opponents. It’s yet to be seen whether the Buckeyes are the real deal on defense, but they should be good enough to win this one.

Coin Flip: Ohio State

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Buckeyes 34 Huskies 20

15 Tennessee (-7.5, 63) at Mississippi State 4:15 pm (SECN) - The Vols better get their chin straps on tight for this visit to Starkville, because the 4-0 Bulldogs mean business, especially when it comes to defense. They are ranked 16th in points allowed (11.8) and have proved their mettle with four wins and no losses, including a 34-17 win at Southern Miss, and a 24-20 whipping of Arizona State.

No slouches themselves, the Vols rank fifth in scoring (53.5), their lone loss (3-1) a home heart-breaker, 44-41 defeat by Georgia in OT. Great offense vs. great defense indicates a close call.

Coin Flip: Mississippi State

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Volunteers 31 Bulldogs 27

Arizona at 14 Iowa State (-6.5, 49) 7:00 pm (ESPN) - Both teams are undefeated: Arizona, 3-0 Iowa State, 4-0. The Wildcats have had an extra week to ruminate over how they topped Kansas State, 23-17. The Cyclones also have a win over Kansas State, taking them down, 24-17, in the season opener in Dublin, Ireland.

Similar scores against the same opponent suggests that this game should be closer than the offered line indicates. QBs Fifita for Arizona and Becht for Iowa State will have their work cut out for them against well-prepared defenses. Big 12 gets hot with this game, though scoring will be at a premium.

Coin Flip: Arizona

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Cyclones 20 Wildcats 18

17 Alabama at 5 Georgia (-3, 52.5) 7:30 pm (ABC) - This is about as good as it gats in the SEC, with traditional powerhouses meeting in an early showdown. Georgia gutted out a 44-41 win at Tennessee last week which puts them head and shoulders above anything Alabama can offer.

This game should get a little bit wild, but Georgia has better coaching and, like it or not, Crimson’s Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer’s job is on the line. He’s proven to be less a successor to the masterful Nick Saban than originally thought. The opening week loss to Florida State (31-17) was unacceptable. Beating Wisconsin, 38-14 was expected, but SEC plans is at a different level and Kirby Smart knows the ropes.

Coin Flip: Alabama

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Bulldogs 31 Crimson Tide 26

6 Oregon at 3 Penn State (-3.5, 51.5) 8:00 pm (NBC) - As usual West coast pundits are touting Oregon’s speed and athleticism, but Happy Valley isn’t a very inviting place for opposing teams. Penn State should win this one with stout defense and timely scores. Neither team has beaten anybody of quality so far, so this is a proving ground for both programs.

Home field says Penn State will prevail as they usually do in games like this.

Coin Flip: Oregon

Fearless Rick’s Pick: Nittany Lions 30 Ducks 20
