UTSA (-7, 73.5) @ Florida Atlantic 7:30 pm (ESPN) - Tied with North Texas atop the American conference standings at 4-0, the Roadrunners look to improve on their 7-1 overall record with a sixth straight win.
Florida Atlantic comes off a tough, 48-41, loss at North Texas, though they’ve shown to have plenty of offensive firepower and, have not lost at home this season. Upsets happen. This may be one of them as it appears the last team with possession can win the game.
Coin Flip: Florida Atlantic
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Owls 45 Roadrunners 42
Nebraska (-4.5, 50) @ Illinois 7:30 pm (FOX) - The Cornhuskers come into this affair with a three-game losing streak, though they’ve all been close, losing to Indiana, 20-17, at Oregon, 17-14, and vs. Washington, 17-10. If anything, Nebraska defends well and has incentive to get their sixth win overall for bowl eligibility.
On the flip side, Illinois has won their last three, topping Michigan State, Oregon, and Maryland. This contest has the look of a slugfest, and Illinois is also looking for a sixth win. The Illini are 3-2 in conference play and may be looking for some respect.
Coin Flip: Illinois
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Fighting Illini 24 Cornhuskers 23
That’s going to be a problem against the Wildcats, who have put up big numbers this season. They’ve scored 34 or more points six times this season and are coming off a 34-26 road loss at Texas Tech, so they’re eager to get back to winning ways.
Coin Flip: TCU
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Wildcats 31 Horned Frogs 16
9 BYU @ 3 Utah (-5.5, 48.5) 12:00 pm (ABC) - This should be a war. Utah is 8-0, undefeated along with Miami and UCLA, and 5-0 in the Big 12, one game up on 4-1 BYU. The Cougars’ lone loss came two weeks ago at UCF, in a 39-31, 2OT thriller. Both teams are likely to play in the CFP.
The spread looks suspicious, because both teams have quality on both sides of the ball and know each others’ strengths and weaknesses.
Coin Flip: BYU
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Utes 30 Cougars 27
Like Texas, Missouri is 3-2 in the SEC and has CFP ambitions. Their 31-3 loss at Ole Miss was a real blemish, but they followed up with a 34-10 win at Arkansas. Very tough call here, but the Mezzo are 4-0 at home.
Coin Flip: Texas
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Tigers 24 Longhorns 21
The Golden Gophers are solid defensively but have trouble scoring (89 points in five conference games). Look for the Bruins to take control in the second half and have the defense dictate terms.
Coin Flip: UCLA
Fearless Rick’s Pick: Bruins 27 Golden Gophers 13
