SNAP CENTRAL 2008 - Fearless Rick's NFL & College Football Picks
Week 16 NFL Picks Results: Three games killed me, The Colts scored 17 points in the 4th quarter to upend Jacksonville, the Giants stage a miracle comeback and win in OT by a TD over Carolina and the Bears win but don't cover by a point. Still, I managed to go 9-7, for a regular season total of 116-117-6. The last week of the regular season is usually a tough one, so I'll be happy with a split, but another 9-7 or 10-6 weekend would be nice with the playoffs ahead. 45-32-1 since week 11 isn't bad. 12/24/08
Week 15 NFL Picks Results: 9-6-1 for the week, has improved the regular season total to just a shade under break-even at 107-110-6. With two weeks remaining, plus the playoffs, a winning season looks good. 12/16/08
Week 14 NFL Picks Results: The same again, at 8-8 for the week, for a regular season total of 98-104-5. With three weeks remaining, plus the playoffs, I have the feeling that I'm about to get hot, like I do every year. 12/9/08
Week 15 College Picks Results: 6-3 in what was one of the easier weeks, though, notably, USC and Cincinnati were let-downs. for the week, which ups the season totals to 82-89-3. I'll have to go something on the order of 20-12 in bowl season to get over .500. 12/8/08
Week 13 NFL Picks Results: 8-8 on the pros, bringing the season totals to 90-96-5. No gain on the percentage, but no loss, either. You try picking every game against the spread on Wednesdays. 12/2/08
Week 14 College Picks Results: 6-8-1 for the week, which sends season totals to 76-86-3. 11/30/08
Week 12 NFL Picks Results: A huge rebound, going 11-5 for a regular season total of 82-88-5. With five weeks remaining, the magic .500 mark is again within sight. 11/25/08
Week 13 College Picks Results: 8-4-1 for the week, which ups the season totals to 70-78-2. 11/24/08
Week 11 NFL Picks Results: Worst week of the year at 5-11, bringing the season totals to a woeful 71-83-5. 11/18/08
Week 12 College Picks Results: Antoher challenging week, highlighted by bad misses in the ACC and Big East, the two toughest conferences to figure, dropped me to 4-7-1 for the week and the season totals to 62-74-1. 11/17/08
Week 10 NFL Picks Results: The 49ers killed me on Monday night, sending me to another week below break-even at 6-7-1. ATS for the season, now 66-72-5. 11/11/08
Week 11 College Picks Results: Another tough week picking college games, going just 4-7, though I did have the Penn St. vs. Iowa game right on the money. Season totals now stand at 58-67. 11/10/08
Week 9 NFL Picks Results: Just call me Even Stephen with a 7-7 record in week 9. Regular season totals now stand at 60-65-4. 11/4/08
Week 10 College Picks Results: Well, back to the drawing board after going 3-7 this week, pushing my record back to 54-60. 11/3/08
Week 8 NFL Picks Results: A nice improvement to go 8-5-1 at the midpoint of the NFL season including nice wins on the key games: Giants over Pittsburgh and the Titans over Indy. Regular season totals now stand at 53-58-4. 10/28/08
Week 9 College Picks Results: Like I said, this would be one of the best weeks of the season for college picks. I came up with an incredibly good 10-2 record ATS, sending season totals to 51-53, closer to the even mark than I've been all season. Should be interesting to see if I come through in Week 10 to get beyond break even. 10/26/08
Week 7 NFL Picks Results: Some trouble with the late games and larger than normal point spreads sent me to another losing week at 6-8. The regular season totals now stand at 45-53-3. 10/21/08
Week 8 College Picks Results: A serious setback with my worst college week of the season at 3-9 ATS. Season total so far is 41-51. Just in time for the real games of November, early December and the bowls, where I've been about 65% over the past three years. Week 9 should be one of my best weeks to date. 10/20/08
Week 6 NFL Picks Results: I went even - 7-7 - for the week, bringing the season totals ATS to 39-45-3. 10/14/08
Week 7 College Picks Results: 6-7 overall this week ATS, bringing the season total to at 38-42-2. The week was chock full of upsets, but I missed on three different favorites who won and didn't cover (Georgia, North Carolina and Cincinnati). 10/12/08
Week 5 NFL Picks Results: A better effort at 7-5-2 for the week and for the season ATS now 32-38-3. 10/7/08
Week 6 College Picks Results: A much better showing this week with an 8-5 record ATS, bringing the season total to at 32-35-2. A number of lopsided wins by Missouri, USC and North Carolina, where I called for upsets, kept me from an even better week. 10/5/08
Week 4 NFL Picks Results: I was a somewhat disappointing 5-8 for the week and once again, it was the cellar-dwellers that did me in, as in Atlanta and Cincy. Also, after going with some favorites was costly, as in Dallas, Denver and Philly. Totals for the NFL ATS now 25-33-1. 9/30/08
Week 5 College Picks Results: 3-7-1 overall brings the college record back down, further below the even mark at 24-30-2. This was a big week of upsets, so backing dogs was the way to go. As usual, college is very tough. 9/29/08
Week 3 NFL Picks Results: Some bonehead picks (the Rams and Lions, duh) and a couple of ATS upsets (Miami over NE, Cincy covering vs. the Giants) turned a promising week into a 6-10 stinker. Totals for the NFL ATS now 20-25-1, but at least Brett Favre is My Bitch. 9/23/08
Week 4 College Picks Results: 8-4 overall with correct picks on Colorado over West Virginia and Iowa and Baylor covering. That brings the college record closer to break even, anyway, but still not great at 21-23-1. Had Auburn beaten LSU, I'd be even. 9/22/08
Week 2 NFL Picks Results: An excellent 9-5-1 record, with a couple of upsets correctly predicted. Season totals for NFL picks are now a decent 14-15-1. 9/16/08
Week 3 College Picks Results: A tough week, going just 3-6-1 ATS, 13-19-1, underwater. 9/15/08
Week 1 NFL Picks: - It all went downhill after the late games on Sunday, as the Colts stunk the place up and both Monday night picks were outright disasters. My first regular season week went down as 5-10, with the New England game officiallly off the board. My winners were Buffalo, Carolina, Philadelphia, NY Giants and Atlanta. Could have done better flipping a coin. 9/9/08
Week 2 College Picks: - A little improvement, but still seeking the 60% win line. 4-5 for the week and 10-13 overall on college picks thus far. 9/8/08
Week 1 College Picks: - Opening week of college football was not bad, a tough week in which I started 0-4, but finished up 6-4 to go 6-8 overall, with the big upsets by Utah (over Michigan) and East Carolina (over Va. Tech) paving the way . 9/2/08
Preseason Week 4 Results: Preseason Week 4 - finished up at 9-6-1, bringing preseason totals to a final 25-32-5. 9/1/08
Preseason Week 3 Results: After this week, I can't wait for the regular season to get underway. Going 4-11-1 in week #3, puts my preseason record at 16-28-4. I have to go 14-2 in week 4 - which is going to be next-to-impossible to get back to .500. 8/27/08
Stuck on 6: For the second straight week, I knocked out 6 correct, finishing preseason week #2 at 6-9-1 and 12-17-3 overall. Good thing these games don't count. 8/20/08
8/14/08 - Preseason Week 2 Picks - Heading into the second week of preseason with some interesting observations. We finally get a peek at Brett Favre in a Jets uniform. Now there's a scary thought.
Preseason Week 1 results: After a couple of tough beats, our picks came in at 6-8-2, including the Hall of Fame Game. No complaints here, because, like the teams themselves understand, these games don't count. We're still evaluating talent, just like the coaches, and like what we see going forward. 8/12/08
Update 8/5: NFC Predictions are in. Check out the playoff contenders in each division, starting with the NFC EAST.
Update 8/3: Well, this season is off to a swell start as the Colts couldn't hang on to a halftime lead and were blown away by the Redskins and Colt Brennan in the second half. My pick was a good one if you were betting just the first half, which gives me a real idea for the remainder of pre-season.... more on 8/6 with this week's picks.
Update 7/28: - College football preview is live. Check out who's predicted to be #1, all the way down to #25.
Update 7/23: The 2008 football season is set to kick off with the Hall of Fame Game between the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins on August 3, 2008.
After that, NFL preseason begins, with college football kicking off late in August. In the meantime, I'll be updating all pages with fresh info, beginning with NFL Previews, the NCAA Top 25 Preview
Check back here on July 27, 28 and 29 for all the football previews you can handle. After that, preseason picks, regular season picks and updates throughout the pro and college season.
