8:00 pm Tulsa at Houston (-18, 69 1/2) - These Thursday night games used to be more interesting, but they've devolved into American Athletic conference games which have limited appeal. At least here, Houston has a high-octane offense and should put on quite a spectacle at Tulsa's expense.
The Golden Hurricane was creamed by Temple, 31-17, last week, and will be cremated by the Cougars.
Coin Flip: Tulsa
PREDICTION: Cougars 49 Golden Hurricane 14
7:00 pm Georgia Tech (-3 1/2, 57 1/2) at Louisville - The Cardinals came close against Florida State last week, though that isn't saying much, but they do have some studs on defense, which should be able to handle the Yellow Jacket triple option offense.
Louisville doesn't score much, but they may do well against a porous Georgia Tech defense yielding 27.8 ppg.
Coin Flip: Louisville
PREDICTION: Cardinals 34 Yellow Jackets 17
3-1 Utah State is better than many assume. They opened the season with a 38-31 loss at Michigan State, but have run off three straight wins, last week topping Air Force, 42-32. They're averaging 51.5 points per game and may simply outscore the Cougars.
Coin Flip: BYU
PREDICTION: Aggies 38 Cougars 21
12:00 pm #19 Texas vs. #7 Oklahoma (-7 1/2, 60 1/2) - Texas is being severely underrated, especially coming back against Kansas State last week for a gutsy, 19-14 win on enemy turf. The Longhorns are 4-1 and gaining confidence, leading to this annual showdown at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
The Sooners are loaded on offense, averaging 48.6 points per game (#8), but Texas may be laying in wait, hoping to control the clock with their running game and hope to stay with the fleet Sooner receivers on defense. A monumental upset may be in the making.
Coin Flip: Oklahoma
PREDICTION: Longhorns 27 Sooners 24
The Terrapins have it going at 3-1 and wins over Texas, Bowling Green and Minnesota, but this is the Big House and a big test.
The Wolverines were nearly upset at Northwestern, though that would not have been a huge surprise. A Maryland win would be, but the Michigan faithful will be happy with the result, though they will not cover the spread.
Coin Flip: Michigan
PREDICTION: Wolverines 34 Terrapins 21
Michigan State hasn't exactly overwhelmed their undermanned opposition and they did lose a 16-13 game at Arizona State in week two.
Northwestern has lost three straight, but that streak could come to a sudden end here.
Coin Flip: Michigan State
PREDICTION: Wildcats 24 Spartans 21
Boston College was ranked after going 3-0, bu threw in a clunker at Purdue with a 30-13 loss. They came back with a win over Temple last week, 45-35.
BC relies heavily on the running game and sophomore AJ Dillon (106 carries for 652 yards). This should be a very competitive contest, but the Wolfpack's affinity for defense - 15.3 points per game allowed (#13) - will carry the day.
Coin Flip: NC State
PREDICTION: Wolfpack 34 Eagles 23

Friday, October 5
8:00 pm Utah State at BYU (-2 1/2, 55 1/2) - With one of the toughest schedules in the country, BYU may have bitten off more than it can chew. Sure, they won at Arizona, 28-23, and beat Wisconsin, 24-21, but last week's 35-7 loss at Washington exposed their weak offense.
Saturday, October 6
12:00 pm Maryland at #15 Michigan (-17 1/2, 49) - Michigan has statistical advantages - though not by large margins - on both offense and defense, and is home, so Maryland must play disciplined football and not make mental mistakes.
12:00 pm Northwestern at #20 Michigan State (11 1/2, 45) - As noted above, the Wildcats nearly turned the tables on Michigan, and this week they get a shot at the Spartans. It's certainly too early in the season for teams to pack it in, so expect another strong performance from Northwestern and maybe a win.
12:30 pm Boston College at #23 NC State (-4 1/2, 59 1/2) - After cruising through non-conference games with three wins (James Madison, Georgia State, Marshall), the Wolfpack opened their ACC schedule with a 35-21 win over Virginia. Senior QB Ryan Finley has been superb, throwing 8 TD passes and just one interception.
