New Orleans Bowl
In a game that should feature the Eagles' grind it out ground game (262.5 yards per game, 5th) and a stubborn defense against Tech's largely air attack (only 97.7 yards rushing per game), that defense and hard-nosed rushing is likely to prevail.
Coin Flip: Georgia Southern
Prediction: Eagles 34 Bulldogs 20
The Owls went 5-3 in the largely overlook Conference USA, beating so-so opponents like Western Kentucky, UMass, and Florida International in low-scoring affairs. This looks like a bad match-up for Florida Atlantic, as they only managed to score more than 24 points twice this season, though the defense may be formidable at times. They held the opposition under 10 points in three of their wins.
It just appears that the AAC is a better conference top to bottom than C-USA and that will be a big difference.
Coin Flip: Memphis
Prediction: Tigers 31 Owls 17

Bowl Week 1 Early Games
3:00 pm Louisiana Tech vs. Georgia Southern (-4 1/2, 51) - Georgia Southern holds a massive defensive advantage over their bowl game rival, allowing just 22.3 points per game to the Bulldogs' 34.3.
Montgomery Bowl
7:00 pm Memphis (-9 1/2, 53) vs. Florida Atlantic - The Memphis Tigers put together a respectable 7-3 season in the surprisingly-competitive American Athletic conference, losing only to SMU, 30-27, Cincinnati, 49-10, and Tulane, 35-21. The Tigers put up an average of 31.5 points per game, and the defense was usually just good enough to keep the other guys out of the end zone consistently, though defense is definitely not a Memphis strong suit.
