NCAA College Football Week 8 Picks - Late Games
NCAA Week 8 Late Games
All times Eastern
3:30 pm #16 NC State at #3 Clemson (-17, 56) - Obviously, the Wolfpack circled this game and they come into it with a perfect, 5-0 record and every indication they'll have these Tigers by the tail.
Last season, NC State lost at Clemson, 38-31, so it figures to be a competitive contest. Clemson has had its share of close calls, winning at Texas A&M, 28-26, and defeating Syracuse, 27-23, on their final drive.
Coin Flip: NC State
PREDICTION: Wolfpack 34 Tigers 27
Coin Flip: Washington
PREDICTION: Huskies 42 Buffaloes 17
However, the Bulldogs boast the #1 scoring defense in the country, giving up a mere 12.7 ppg. How does one square those stats, other than this projecting to be a low-scoring game? Take a chance of LSU maybe tossing a shutout.
Coin Flip: Mississippi State
PREDICTION: Tigers 24 Bulldogs 10
East Carolina's last two losses were 49-6 at Temple and 42-20 at home against Houston.
Coin Flip: East Carolina
PREDICTION: Knights 45 Pirates 14
However, on closer inspection, Purdue doesn't look that bad. They lost their first three games by a combined eight points, changed quarterbacks and romped to three straight wins by a combined 60 points, including last week's 46-7 rout at Illinois.
Senior QB David Blough should put the Ohio State defense to the test. The Buckeyes are ranked #24 in points allowed, not exactly elite status at 19.1 ppg.
Coin Flip: Purdue
PREDICTION: Boilermakers 36 Buckeyes 33
Washington State's only lost was a 39-36 defeat at USC, so giving Oregon a field goal isn't surprising. The fact that they're only ranked #25 is and they should move up after this result.
Coin Flip: Oregon
PREDICTION: Cougars 38 Ducks 31
Kentucky remains well-regarded in the polls, despite their 20-14 overtime loss at Texas A&M. The Wildcats have the #4 scoring defense in the country, allowing 13.8 points per game. Ouch!
Coin Flip: Kentucky
PREDICTION: Wildcats 28 Commodores 10

Week 8 Early Games
3:30 pm Colorado at #15 Washington (-15 1/2, 51 1/2) - Finally meeting a quality team last week, we found out that the Buffaloes were made of paper, mostly, as the USC Trojans stuffed them, 31-20. Washington is coming off a tough loss at Oregon and will be looking to make amends, so this could get ugly.
7:00 pm #22 Mississippi State at #5 LSU (-6 1/2, 45) - From all indications, after Alabama, Florida and LSU are the best teams in the SEC. the Tigers hammered Georgia last week, 36-16, and are allowing just 16.9 points per outing.
7:00 pm #10 UCF (-21, 66 1/2) at East Carolina - The Knights are seeking their 19th straight win and it's very doubtful that the 2-4 Pirates are going to derail those ambitions.
7:30 pm #2 Ohio State (-13 1/2, 67) at Purdue - On the surface, this match-up between the 3-3 Boilermakers and the 6-0 Buckeyes looks like it should be another blowout win for Ohio State.
7:30 pm #12 Oregon at #25 Washington State (-3, 66 1/2) - The Ducks follow up a very hard-fought victory over Washington with a trip to play at Washington State, so don't be surprised if they're not fully engaged emotionally for the 5-1 Cougars.
7:30 pm Vanderbilt at #14 Kentucky (-11 1/2, 48 1/2) - Mark this as the culmination of a very tough run for the Commodores, who have lost four of their last five to Notre Dame, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. A 31-27 win over Tennessee State is sandwiched in between those defeats.
