3:30 pm #9 Florida at #7 Georgia (-7, 52) - The SEC East is a logjam, with Kentucky, Georgia and Florida all at 4-1 in conference and 6-1 overall. Something has to give and it is positively going to happen in Athens Georgia, this weekend.

The Gators' only loss was to Kentucky, 27-16, and they have wins over Mississippi State and LSU to their credit. The Bulldogs were beaten badly at LSU, 36-16, two weeks back. Given their time to recover from the loss and home field advantage, Georgia figures to be go to go, but Florida will not be an easy mark. Look for defense to dominate, as the Bulldogs allow 16.3 points per game, Florida, 16.6. The seven points to Florida may be more than enough in what figures to be a close, low-scoring affair.

Coin Flip: Georgia

PREDICTION: Gators 24 Bulldogs 21

3:30 pm Kansas State at #8 Oklahoma (-24 1/2, 64) - Which Wildcat team will show up? The one hat lost at West Virginia, 35-6, or the one which defeated Oklahoma State, 31-12. It's probably going to be something in between, as the other Wildcat conference losses were to Texas, 19-14, and Baylor, 37-34.

The Sooners are capable of putting a serious whipping on anyone, as TCU can attest after being dumped at home, 52-27. Interestingly, if that score prevails in this game, the Sooners would cover by 1/2 point. We think they can do better than that.

Coin Flip: Kansas State

PREDICTION: Sooners 56 Wildcats 23

3:30 pm #18 Iowa at #17 Penn State (-6 1/2, 52 1/2) - At 6-1, the Hawkeyes are probably the most overlooked team on the planet. Their only loss was a 28-17 defeat by Wisconsin, Otherwise, all six wins have been blowouts, including a 23-0 win over Maryland last week. They will be undaunted against the Nittany Lions potent offense, as their 5th-ranked scoring defense is allowing 14.1 points per game.

Penn State cruised to a 4-0 mark, but their 27-26 loss at home to the Buckeyes was devastating. A bye week and a 21-17 defeat by Michigan State was telling, as was their 33-28 win at Indiana last week. Their defense is suffering. Iowa will make them pay.

Coin Flip: Penn State

PREDICTION: Hawkeyes 34 Nittany Lions 26

3:30 pm #21 South Florida at Houston (-7, 74 1/2) - At first glance, Houston being a seven-point favorite over the ranked South Florida Bulls seems odd, but then again, the Cougars are 6-1, their only loss a 63-49 air drill at Texas Tech. The Cougars have the second-highest scoring offense in the country, clicking for 48.7 points per game. South Florida scores 35.6.

The Bulls are a perfect 7-0, but they don't defend well, allowing 96 points in their last three games, despite winning all of them. Their 38-30 win last week over UConn was not pretty, as the Huskies aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse. If Houston gets a lead, the Bulls will have a hard time keeping up.

Coin Flip: Houston

PREDICTION: Cougars 54 Bulls 38

4:00 pm #12 Kentucky at Missouri (-7, 55) - This one is a real head scratcher, but Missouri QB Drew Lock can really light it up. The Mizzou scores 38.6 points per game. Pit that against Kentucky's defense, allowing 12.9 ppg (2nd nationally), and you have the makings of a real SEC showdown.

Considering the Wildcats are 6-1, lost in OT to Texas A&M, 20-14, those seven points they're getting look pretty darn good.

Coin Flip: Kentucky

PREDICTION: Wildcats 28 Tigers 26

7:00 pm #14 Washington State at #24 Stanford (-3, 54) - Why Stanford is favored is a real quandary. They've lost to Notre Dame and Utah, badly, and just got by a so-so Arizona State team last week, 20-13. Washington State just put the kibosh on Oregon, 34-20, have one loss - at USC, 39-36, and the Cardinal secondary, as good as it is, hasn't seen anything like Mike Leach's offense. Mark it down, the Cougars roll to 7-1.

Coin Flip: Washington State

PREDICTION: Cougars 38 Cardinal 21

7:00 pm #16 Texas A&M at Mississippi State (-2 1/2, 45 1/2) - Here's another weird line. The Bulldogs have lost to Kentucky, Florida, and LSU, so why should they beat the Aggies? Maybe it's a sucker play, but Texas A&M has only lost to Clemson and Alabama, and Mississippi State isn't one of them.

Coin Flip: Mississippi State

PREDICTION: Aggies 21 Bulldogs 13

7:00 pm #22 NC State (-2, 64) at Syracuse - The 5-2 Orange are a very dangerous team, their only losses a 27-23 loss at Clemson and a 44-37 OT defeat at Pittsburgh. Last week's 40-37 double overtime win over North Carolina may have been an aberration, and they'll be better this week against the up-and-coming Wolfpack.

This is a pretty tight match-up, as NC State is 5-1, losing last week at Clemson, 41-7. A second straight road game may be more than they can handle.

Coin Flip: NC State

PREDICTION: Orange 31 Wolfpack 24

8:00 pm #3 Notre Dame (-24, 54 1/2) at Navy - The undefeated Irish have moved into the top four, a position that puts the independent in line for a shot at a national championship. Navy's in a down year at 2-5 and should pose no threat to Notre Dame.

Coin Flip: Notre Dame

PREDICTION: Fighting Irish 48 Midshipmen 17

8:00 pm #6 Texas (-3 1/2, 59 1/2) at Oklahoma State - The Cowboys were ranked preseason, but they didn't last long, losing to Texas Tech in week four. Since then, they've beaten Kansas but lost to Iowa State, 48-42, and, in their 31-12 loss at Kansas State, it appeared the wheels had come off.

They've had a week extra to prep for the Longhorns, which is possibly to their advantage, but the Longhorns have won six straight and are one of the bright surprises in the Big 12. State may hang with the Horns for a half, but the Texas defense is likely to clamp down as the game wears on.

Coin Flip: Texas

PREDICTION: Longhorns 34 Cowboys 23
