8:20 pm Oakland Raiders at San Francisco 49ers (-3, 46 1/2) - With just two wins between these teams, the NFL has thown up a white flag with this game. Good thing the World Series is over, or there would be an even smaller TV audience.
Have to figure Derek Carr is due for a big game. Maybe being on the right side of the Bay will do the Raiders some good. Not a big fan of this contest.
Coin Flip: Oakland
PREDICTION: Raiders 24 49ers 14
1:00 pm Atlanta Falcons at Washington Redskins (-1 1/2, 47 1/2) - At 5-2, the Redskins hold a two-game lead in the NFC East after flexing their defensive muscles against the punchless Giants last week in a 20-13 road win. The Redskins are ranked #5 in scoring defense (19.1 ppg) and are second overall in rush defense. The plan is to force the Falcons into throwing the ball, getting sacks and/or interceptions.
Atlanta has struggled all season. At 3-4, they're on the brink of falling completely out of post-season consideration. The defense is allowing 30.3 points per game (30th), but the issue is on offense which is rushing for just 83.3 yards per outing, third-worst in the NFL.
Coin Flip: Washington
PREDICTION: Redskins 34 Falcons 21
The Bears are on top in the NFC North and should remain there with what looks like an easy win. Chicago won't be bothered by any adverse weather conditions that may pop up in windy Buffalo. They're used to inclement weather and should win by at least two TDs.
Coin Flip: Chicago
PREDICTION: Bears 24 Bills 3
Minnesota's overhyped defense has yet to show up, allowing 24.4 points per game, but maybe they can put it all together here. Kirk Cousins is having an outstanding season, but the Vikings need to run the ball better than their 87.1 yards per game average (29th). With Detroit allowing the second-most rush yards per game, this looks like a breakout opportunity for Minnesota.
Coin Flip: Detroit
PREDICTION: Vikings 30 Lions 17
The only criticism of the Chiefs is that their defense isn't very good, but, they haven't had to be. They are improving, all the way up to #21 in points allowed (25.6 per game). If Cleveland isn't able to move the ball consistently, this could turn into a laugher.
Coin Flip: Cleveland
PREDICTION: Chiefs 38 Browns 21
Miami is still in the hunt in the AFC East, but the chances of catching the Patriots are slim. Still, the Dolphins aren't bad at home (3-1) and should handle the youthful Jets. They topped them, 20-12, in New York in Week 2, so they'll be seeking the series sweep.
Coin Flip: Miami
PREDICTION: Dolphins 21 Jets 10
The Steelers are in usual mid-season form, having won three straight after a 1-2-1 start. If momentum is a factor, Pittsburgh should roll to their fourth straight win, though against a divisional foe, on the road, it may not be easy.
Coin Flip: Baltimore
PREDICTION: Steelers 23 Ravens 21
With the Panthers one game back of New Orleans in the division, they'll be on the best behavior and should romp at home. Carolina is second in the league in rushing; the Bucs are dead last in scoring defense (33.3), though they are pretty good against the run. Look for Cam Newton to throw for 300 yards or more in a big win.
Coin Flip: Tampa Bay
PREDICTION: Panthers 34 Buccaneers 17

Sunday, November 4
1:00 pm Chicago Bears at Buffalo Bills (NL, NL) - Buffalo has the worst offense in the league and it's not even close, scoring a pathetic 11.6 points per game. While the Bills ownership and coaching staff have put together a solid defensive unit, the offense is forcing the good defenders to spend too much time on the field, tiring late in games.
1:00 pm Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (-5, 50 1/2) - Both teams are coming off losses, the Lions humbled at home by Seattle, 28-14, and the Vikings also losing at home, 30-20, to the Saints. This is a pivotal game in the NFC North, the winner looking to keep pace with the Bears.
1:00 pm Kansas City Chiefs (-8, 51 1/2) at Cleveland Browns - Sure the Browns have played better than in recent years, but they're still finding ways to lose games or can't come up with enough big plays late in games to win them. Don't figure on Cleveland stopping the KC offense, as no other team has been able to do anything but slow it down a little.
1:00 pm New York Jets at Miami Dolphins (-3, 45 1/2) - Second week in a row that the Jets are on the road makes them an improbably choice for the win here. They are 1-3 on the road, the win an unlikely, 48-17, win at Detroit in Week 1. Since then, they're 2-4 and in need of healthy players on both sides of the ball.
1:00 pm Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens (-3, 47) - Baltimore started the season looking good at 3-1, but have gone 1-3 since, their latest flop a 36-21 loss at Carolina last week, in which QB Joe Flacco was picked twice. Since the Ravens already topped the Steelers, 26-14, in Pittsburgh, they appear to have their number and prospects for a win are reasonably good.
1:00 pm Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers (-6 1/2, 54) - The Buccaneers are one of the tougher teams to figure out because they are uniquely inconsistent. They open the season with wins at New Orleans and at home over the Eagles, but have since lost four of five, the lone victory a 26-23 win over Cleveland.
