7:30 pm Wake Forest at #14 NC State (-17, 69) - This week is heavily slanted toward ranked favorites against weak conference also-rans, so much so, that #4 Michigan is not even on the board against low-lying Rutgers. Getting to the first of such lopsided meetings is this potential Thursday night dud, with Wake Forest, fresh off a 41-24 rout by Syracuse, heading into enemy territory to face the 6-2 Wolfpack, a likewise loser to Syracuse (Oct. 27, 51-41).
After back-to-back losses to Clemson and the Orange, NC State got back on the winning track with a 47-28 pounding of Florida State, a game that was never in doubt. This may not be similar, as both the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons put up more than 32 points per game on average. Expect to see lots of offense, little defense, and a late score by Wake potentially wrecking Thursday night plays on the heavy favorite.
Coin Flip: NC State
PREDICTION: Wolfpack 42 Demon Deacons 29
7:00 pm Louisville at #13 Syracuse (-21, 69) - National rankings for Louisville: Offense: #118 (21.6 ppg); Defense: #125 (40.8 ppg). Syracuse could surpass their season high of 62 scored against Wagner in week two. Louisville may well score three or four touchdowns, but the Orange is likely to hit the end zone seven times minimum.
Coin Flip: Louisville
PREDICTION: Orange 56 Cardinals 24
The Bulldogs sport the second-stingiest defense in the country, allowing 12.3 points per game, tied with Mississippi State and a point better than Clemson (13.3). While Boise is certainly no pushover, they'll find tough going at home against a defense that doesn't give an inch. Fresno State has allowed a mere 36 points in its last five games. That's tight.
Coin Flip: Fresno State
PREDICTION: Bulldogs 31 Broncos 16
12:00 pm TCU at #9 West Virginia (-12, 56) - It's been a tough year to be a Horned Frog, the perennial Big 12 powerhouse has been reduced to a 2-4 record in conference and are 4-5 overall.
The Mountaineers are on a path to play for the Big 12 title, at 5-1, their only loss was a 30-14 setback at Iowa State. With the best defense in the conference and an offense that clicks for 40 points per game, the Mountaineers should win going away.
Coin Flip: West Virginia
PREDICTION: Mountaineers 38 Horned Frogs 17
Astute observers will note the disparity on defense, as the Spartans are #16 nationally, allowing just 19 points per game. The Buckeyes will be hard-pressed to find the end zone more than once on Spartan ground. look for the ranking to flip next week.
Coin Flip: Michigan State
PREDICTION: Spartans 28 Buckeyes 13
At 53, the Gamecocks are on par with the Gators, and may be better. Their losses were to Georgia, Kentucky and Texas A&M, and while an also-ran in the SEC, should take the Gators down another few notches.
Coin Flip: South Carolina
PREDICTION: Gamecocks 26 Gators 21
Penn State, with a 6-3 record, is lucky to still be ranked, though their losses have been to conference powerhouses, Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State. Last week's 42-7 splattering by Michigan was certainly a low point of the season, and it pointed up Penn State's second-class status. Back at home, they're likely to run it up on the souring Badgers.
Coin Flip: Penn State
PREDICTION: Nittany Lions 34 Badgers 21

Cumulative: Coin: 76-83; Rick 91-68
Friday, November 9
10:15 pm #23 Fresno State (-3, 54) at Boise State - Huge game in the Mountain West, where the 4-1 Broncos trail 5-0 Utah State in the Mountain division, while Fresno is 5-0 with a one-game lead over 4-1 San Diego State in the West.
Saturday, November 10
12:00 pm #10 Ohio State (-3 1/2, 52) at #18 Michigan State - In what appears to be one of the best games of the weekend, the Buckeyes have to come up with some magic in order to win this game. They've looked absolutely average since their 27-26 win at Penn State in week five, with subpar efforts in wins over Minnesota (30-14) and Nebraska (36-31), and a 49-20 loss at Purdue three weeks back.
12:00 pm South Carolina at #15 Florida (-6 1/2, 54) - The Gators have retained a high ranking despite losses to Kentucky, Georgia, and Missouri (38-17, last week). A 6-3 team ranked #15 at this point of the season is ludicrous.
12:00 pm Wisconsin at #20 Penn State (-8 1/2, 54 1/2) - The Badgers have lost two of three road games this season, and a visit to Happy Valley could send them reeling out of the Big Ten picture.
