NFL Week 13: Coin: 4-12; Rick: 9-7
Cumulative: Coin: 81-101-5; Rick: 91-96-5

Thursday, December 6

8:20 pm Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (-4, 37 1/2) - At 4-8, the Jags are out of it, despite their gargantuan defensive effort in a 6-0 win over the Colts last week. Jacksonville has one heck of a defense; the problem is their offense is ranked #30 in points scored, averaging just 16.9 per game.

At 6-6, Tennessee isn't much more efficient offensively, however, scoring just 18.4 per outing, but their defense is nearly the equal of Jacksonville's (20.4 per game vs. 20.3) The Titan had to rally to beat the Jets last week, and the last time these two met, it was a 9-6 snore-fest in week three. Expect something similar, but the Jaguars will have Tennessee sharing the pain of a losing record when the final gun sounds.

Coin Flip: Jacksonville

PREDICTION: Jaguars 16 Titans 12

Sunday, December 9

1:00 pm Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers (-5 1/2, 49 1/2) - Two teams going exactly nowhere. The Packers fired coach Mike McCarthy after last week's dismal, 20-17, home loss to the Cardinals, Green Bay's third straight loss and fifth in their last six games. They just don't have it this year and a coaching change isn't going to fix anything.

Atlanta, at 4-8, might as well fire their head coach, Dan Quinn, as well. The Falcons just plain stink. They've lost four straight and were smothered last week at home by the Ravens in a 26-16 smackdown. They're getting points and being on the road might be the best thing for them.

Coin Flip: Atlanta

PREDICTION: Falcons 27 Packers 24

1:00 pm Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs (-6 1/2, 53) - Kansas City's defense was back to their old self last week, allowing the Raiders to run up and down the field in a very sloppy, 40-33 win at Oakland. The KC defense has given up 84 points in their last two games, so Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson should have a field day and allow the Ravens' defense to do their thing.

Without Kareem Hunt, the Chiefs are missing a key element to their offense and the Ravens should be able to put the stopper to them, in such a manner as Dallas did to New Orleans last week.

Coin Flip: Baltimore

PREDICTION: Ravens 31 Chiefs 23

1:00 pm Carolina Panthers (-1 1/2, 47) at Cleveland Browns - The Browns have the best team they've had in years, while the Panthers have been just lousy compiling a 6-6 record, including last week's 24-17 loss at Tampa Bay, the team's fourth straight.

At this point, despite Cleveland's 4-7-1 mark, the Browns are playing better football than the Panthers and should find a way to chalk up a win for the home crowd. It's likely to be a bit on the chilly side by Lake Erie, another benefit to the Browns.

Coin Flip: Cleveland

PREDICTION: Browns 21 Panthers 13

1:00 pm Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans (-4 1/2, 49 1/2) - Indy threw up a clunker in a 6-0 loss at Jacksonville last week, dampening their aspirations for a playoff spot and making this game just a little less important.

Houston will be seeking their 10th straight win, having easily outplayed Cleveland last week in a 29-13 victory. The Colts are 6-6 and would likely have to win all of their remaining games to reach the playoffs, unless Houston stumbles badly. The Texans are tied with New England for the #2 slot in the playoffs and they don't want to give up their position. The win streak will reach 10, and the Colts can dream other dreams.

Coin Flip: Indianapolis

PREDICTION: Texans 27 Colts 17

1:00 pm New England Patriots (-7, 47) at Miami Dolphins - Everybody keeps doubting the Patriots, and the Pats keep proving them wrong. Bill Belichick's system for winning is unrivaled, as New England easily handled visiting Minnesota last week, 24-10, the defense putting a serious hurt on the Viking offense.

Miami may still be thinking playoffs, and they'll not go easily, even though they barely got past the Bills last week, 21-17. With Ryan Tannehill back at QB, the Dolphins have hope, and they could pull the upset, as all of New England's losses have been on the road and Miami is 5-1 at home this season.

Coin Flip: Miami

PREDICTION: Patriots 26 Dolphins 24

1:00 pm New Orleans Saints (-8, 55 1/2) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - As Dallas showed everybody last Thursday, the Saints could be stopped by an aggressive defense. The Cowboys pressured Drew Brees all night and made him look less than ordinary in a 13-10 win. However, Tampa Bay's defense is nowhere near the level of the Cowboys, so expect the Saints to get back to their free-wheeling offensive style and run up the points.

A win by the Saints or a Carolina loss secures the NFC South for New Orleans. Unless the weather becomes a factor - unlikely - the Saints should wrap up the division and begin looking for a first round playoff bye.

Coin Flip: New Orleans

PREDICTION: Saints 41 Buccaneers 27

1:00 pm New York Giants (-3 1/2, 41) at Washington Redskins - Even though the Redskins are 6-6, their season is over. Mark Sanchez had to come in to replace backup Colt McCoy, who suffered a broken fibula in the Redskins' 28-13 loss to the Eagles.

The Giants scored a big OT win over the Bears after almost giving the game away, blowing a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Not that it mattered, as the G-Men are 4-8. This is one of those "who cares?" kind of game and since the 'Skins have lost three straight, take the Giants even though they're giving points on the road, a real rarity for them this year.

Coin Flip: NY Giants

PREDICTION: Giants 30 Redskins 20

1:00 pm New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (-3 1/2, 38 1/2) - With Josh Allen healthy and proving himself, the Bills should perform well the remainder of the season and they already hammered the Jets, 41-10, just a month ago in New York, so this could be a massive blowout before a raucous Buffalo crowd at the Cap.

The Jets get Sam Darnold back at QB. Josh McCown goes back to the bench. Darnold's been out with an injury, and, being a first-year starter, the missed time wont help, as he still has lots to learn. The Bills schooled the Jets once already this year and at home, they should school them again.

Coin Flip: NY Jets

PREDICTION: Bills 34 Jets 9
